any word on these things, are they making 1 wing a month or what lol.
I talked with John recently about some stuff but didn’t get an idea from him as to whether they’d all been produced and were just waiting to ship or whether he’s still working on producing them.
Where’s everyone else who has ordered one?
Still haven’t received any email with further instructions. I almost forgot I put a deposit on this since it’s been so long lol. But nonetheless I’m awaiting patiently =)
so i got the wing mounted… i folloed jdecks and his instructions and it worked out GREAT… i wasnt too happy about the idea of the wing resting directly on the hatch and i didnt want to snip the stock rubber things since the stock wing will be going back on later so i used some rubber that i found and used it as pictured. it looks like the wing site a little high but its actually not really all that noticeable… like at all. i plugged the two middle holes as shown as well. one of the stock nuts didnt cooperate when i went to mount the wing and i replaced it with one of those nuts that has the nylon in them so that left me with an extra along with the one that was already on the middle nut, so i had two of them and i used them on the bottom of the allen heads and used a rubber washer under a metal washer. if you guys havent noticed yet, the stock nuts have like a rubber grommet seal thing integrated into them.
anyway, enjoy the grainy pictures
I’d be wary of that thick of a rubber piece that doesn’t cover the entire base of the wing. I’d drastically decrease the thickness of that rubber and/or make it larger so it covers the whole base of the wing. Looks to me you’re asking for it to flex under load and potentially crack. Maybe it’s solid and not a problem - you have it in front of you and I don’t - but that pic definitely worries me. Just my $0.02.
dang it looks so good! ive never seen a pic of your DA before. love it even more with the wing. i agree with Colin on the rubber being a little thick. i wouldnt worry about any problems from it, just seems like a little thicker than needed. completely understandable if its just what you had laying around though.
Colin is right… In a perfect world you want the footprint of the rubber to match the footprint of the wing.
The thickness of the rubber will accentuate any flex due to the differences in shape of rubber.
Just hate how hiro reps sit high when looking at it from the sides
Hmmm i see… i’ll cut another piece just to be safe. I figured it was too thick but its just something i had =/
It is pretty secure though, i stress tested it =D
I wouldn’t risk it, you don’t know what sort of loads you’re experiencing at highway speeds. And likely more damaging is the potential for the wing to rock back and forth putting stress on the base which could cause stress cracking over a long period of time. I don’t doubt that it holds plenty strong and that it’s not going to fall off, my main concern would be long term damage. Plus as the others said, it looks better without a spacer in there. (Real Hiro fitment is night and day difference in this regard)
Looking into building an H2 car. Would this wing extend beyong the rear bumper at it’s furthest point? (At least that’s how I’m reading the rules…)
what rules?? and you can see in the pics that it doesnt go past the rear bumper… also, all the wings are bought and owned already. there was only 10, so there is none left.
It doesn’t extend past the rear bumper. Its pretty much even with it. You could probably mount it a little more forward on the hatch and make it not even. I guess it all depends on the person mounting it.
Is there any more talks of later production? I completely missed out on the initial buy!
i’ll sell you mine for 1500$ firm lowball no lowball
Nope
Took the advice and fixed the rubber. Night and day difference in rigidity. you can see the difference in thickness of the rubber i used.
Any updates???
where they at doe
No one has received a wing in 2 months. Your guess is a good as mine
wow… you guys still dont have ur wings?
