Carlitos' SoCo build thread

DB8 is pending sale for 2600, quite a bit more than I got into it. Thinking of picking up a 89 legend or 88 Bronco II for a G, buying a toy (either a AK74 or Neptune, hrmm) and saving the rest. Then again, my wife is going to want in on this xD. If the sale falls through, the car goes on Craigslist for 3. Talked with my gurus, and they are right. I would much rather spend my time working on the DB2 than the DB8. Plus a bronco II or legend will work soooo much better camping.
Strange… Forgive my ignorance but I haven’t ever really read up on the N1 pulley. I just assumed it would be completely balanced as its an oem product. But now that you mention it I do recall reading about oem crank pullies having rubber/dampening material inside them… if the N1 doesn’t, maybe that’s why people prefer the traditional ones? Like I said forgive my ignorance lol.

But, you don’t need to re-time to swap the crank pulley. The timing belt will stay intact without the pulley installed.
Yeah, I think the N1 doesn’t have the rubber damper in it. I don’t know, I never saw one in person, now I have this but it is installed so I can’t see the backside. I guess I should just run that damn thing, since its already mounted and all.

Give it hell! I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Shish, the motor isn’t installed yet? What gives??

Check out the post before my last. Selling the db8, so all integra love goes into the db2 only! xD

Ack… must have skipped over that post. Good stuff!

cough Neptune cough

Yeah, but I am going camping in a week. Only thing about the 5.45mm is it is worthless against bears. Been looking at a Ruger Vaquero as well, I love Cowboy SAA’s. The only other rifle I am interested in is a M1A SOCOM or any M14 type rifle. But Neptune will make my new setup right as rain, MAYBE even piss people off enough they think I am running nitrous or something. The SMART person would just save the money. :stuck_out_tongue:

Truth… But then, a smart person wouldn’t dump money into a 20year old Honda either…

So since we’ve got that out of the way…

Damn you CO guys are so out-doorsey, guns and all. The last thing I shot was an AR15, way back in October. Id like to get into shooting more but, that’s just one more thing that I don’t have money for lol.

What do you folks do up there that allows you to ball so hard? Bastards always have some cool stuff going on lol

Rofl so true!

Lol just enjoying it out here! I always try to go out camping at least 10 times a year, and it is soooo healthy for the family. It is nice that less than 1 hour away you can be camping or fishing in a nice National Forest. If you ever wanted, my buddy and I are planning a hiking trip this year bouncing from lake to lake to lake and then getting picked up. Yes? About 30 miles, 5 day hike. And it is close to Utah.

That actually sounds like a kick ass time! I will have to stay posted and see what I have going on.

I reaaaaaaaaaallllllly need to go camping this year. I didn’t go once last summer :frowning: I went to Vegas like 10 times though lol, decisions decisions.

Whereabouts in CO are you? I’ve been wanting to check out Denver and Grand Junction, maybe this is the year I get to head out that way.

I am in Colorado springs, about 60 miles south of Denver. I would be down to camp out near Grand Junction, should be a couple hundred miles closer for you! :stuck_out_tongue:

In other news, the DB8 just sold for 2600. I am looking for a cheap daily, if anyone knows of one let me know! DB1 would be optimal. Got a line up on a 89 legend 5 speed, 88 bronco II, and a 99 CRV. The crv is pricy though, looking to spend about 1000.

Agaazi, I am thinking about ordering the neptune now. What do you guys think? Neptune or Hondata? Do I need the LC-1 controller as well? And do I NEED a wideband? Not looking to spend a fortune here.

As long as there is someone in your area who will work with Neptune I really don’t see any downside in comparison to going with Hondata. Much more cost effective as well. I think I paid my tuner $100 for the Neptune chip (License fee, etc) and he made me a basemap on the spot. Car has ran great off the map, but obviously a dyno session is needed. As I said, dollar for dollar, Neptune is a better deal imo.

I don’t think the LC-1 controller and wideband are a bad idea, by any means. Once your tuned, your tuned… your A/F ratios shouldn’t change unless something is going wrong. So, its good to be able to monitor it… But at the same time, once its dialed in by a tuner, it should be good to go and require no more attention.

Thanks for the advice! I talked to a few people regarding the EMS, decided on the S300. So I ordered it, with PWM boost components. Figure if I sell all my old stuff it will more than pay for itself. As soon as I get some more items sold, I will get a PLX wideband at my buddy Curtis’ insistence. So, lets get some stuff sold, and make the teg nicer!

Sooooo, I will need to weld a new bung on the hytech rep.

Also, for the new poo ride, what do you guys think of these?

Talking to this guy, have him down to 1000. Its a manual.

My preferences (dependent on condition, obviously) would be:

Blazer
Legend
SHO
Bronco

Congrats on the EMS, I’m positive you’ll be happy with it

Haha thanks so much! That is my EXACT order of preference. I meet with the blazer guy tonight, going to offer him 700 or I walk. I think it will be a fine poo ride.

Also I went with Neptune after the advice of several locals. Even on efriend who had Neptune but switched to Hondata. Said the Neptune was finicky or something.

Carl- FUNK YEA! That’s good to hear. I bet your happy you took that advice, hahaha. About the Neptune or Hondata though, I say whatever you can find cheaper. Neptune is $400 brand new, Curtis can chip it for ya too. At the same time you can find a used S300 for that price. They both have their pros and cons, and I definitely prefer Neptune. But there’s only one person that tunes that in this state, so that’s why the majority of people run S300s. The LC-1 setup is alright, I haven’t heard the greatest things about them. I’d go with a PLX if I were you. And you don’t need a wideband if you go get tuned, but it’s a really nice tool to have. Especially since gas isn’t always consistent.

Unified- You’ve probably got the old style. The new style is the Demon board, so you update in real-time

Ooops. It took me too long to type that post up, haha

$700 for the Blazer won’t be a bad deal if he accepts the offer… Go for it!

You’re correct Mr. Penny, I do indeed have the Non-RTP Neptune unit. My reasoning for such is the same as the wideband… once I’m tuned, I have no real need for real-time datalogging or tuning. If I was boosted or planning more extensive mods then a different EMS might be in the cards… But for a basic NA motor, the Neptune chip will suit all my needs. It also helps that my tuner lives like 15min from my house lol. But at $100 I couldn’t go wrong.

I would LOVE a Neptune RTP and TunerView setup… but again, its above and beyond what I need at this time. I can’t hate on ya for going with Hondata… If it wasn’t Neptune, id be using Hondata. None other.

At least I didn’t come here to find that you (penny OR Deceptakhan) advocating AEM EMS or something of that nature

S300 FTW

I thought I replied to this?

Lol! Dude, thanks SOOOO much for the advice and the push. I feel like I unloaded a money pit in hindsight, no regrets except the damn interior! LOL which I can live without.

Lol! I have settled on getting a members DA shell for a daily, though I tell him I would buy the entire running car!

I think I wil;l be happy with the Hondata!

 You and Curtis did your thing and convinced me. I still lament that I didn’t have cash to get MrPennies Neptune P61 though. Ah well.

UPDATES! Even if they are minor.

ALright, I got a bit of work done on the car last night, though we spent a good amount of time drinking and bullshitting. :stuck_out_tongue: I ‘tucked’ the wiper motor, extended the harness a foot and a half and the plugs will now be inside the firewall safely hidden away. I totally forgot to get pics of it though. :frowning:

All the brake lines are in place, swapped the crooked lines with the new ones.

Started looming the harnesses in the bay, it isn’t taped yet. Is this overkill?

Lines are ran for the oil temp and pressure gauges, and the water temp. Still need to get the connectors on, but I was going to creat sub harnesses that all pulg in at this location.

WTF is this for?

ANd how she sits.

Parting shot of my son ‘playing’ soccer Saturday.

I see what your talking about and I await your call
