Carlitos' SoCo build thread

ok thanks do u know how many of each i need and what the part numbers are

If I remember correctly…

For the cluster:
2x 5 WLED 194 (you want the wide multi LED)
3x 24’s
2x 74 for the top illumination.

For the climate control:
2x 74 ( you may want to play with this, light is sort of splotchy you can see in the pic)
1x 74 for the fan control panel
1x 74 for ashtray
1x 74 for cig lighter
1x type B Neo for mood light

I ordered neos (type A’s) for the switches but none worked. I had to trim the plastic to make them fit, but could not get them to work. They are twice as long as OEM, so it may be due to them being to long and missing the light output ‘tube’ that directs the light to the switch. I used the original bulbs (replaced a bunch from other switches) and painted the bulbs red lol. It works though. The AC switch uses different bulbs then the switches, I just ordered them OEM from Honda.

Lastly some of the bulbs were loose in the socket, I fixed this by undoing the prongs and wrapping the base in a small amount of heat shrink tubing. Redid the prongs and it fits great now. This was mostly the Climate control stuff though.

Good luck! Here is what I used for reference. You have to dig a little but all the information is there, including how to disassemble the switches to get the diffusers out. I would recommend replacing the diffuser with a white piece of paper or tinted film though. I am still waiting on my order of blood red film, what I am going to do the backside of the clock as well to get that red.

Minor updates.

Got the trans clean. WIsh I would have taken a before, oh well. All taped off after a good waterless cleaning, mostly scraping off the 1/4" buildup.

Finished.

My ricer gauges are wired, just need to get the pillar in.

Some junk came in the mail. It ended up being the same price for stainless lines or autozone rubber, so I went stainless.

Took a few tries, it is amazing how quickly I can slip with the dremel and ruin a good bezel.

And I primered and painted all the rusty transmission stuff. Only pic I have, did a few more pieces.

Werd. Motor should be in by Monday morning.

While the tranny is out, might I suggest that you powdercoat the housing and make it look even better now that you have a wire tuck. Say a red or yellow mabe just to get that eye-popping effect. Project is turning out good, I like it.

Thanks for the suggestion and compliment! I do appreciate it. At this point, I don’t want to spend the cash for powdercoating and I am happy with how it looks cleaned. In the future though, a nice cast silver color would be very cool, maybe bronze?

Glynn (BLKACK1) and a few other peoples came down today and we worked until 4:30 AM. Got a ton of work done, engine harness is nearly finished. Found a new driverside mount in my pile of parts, so that all the mounts are good or new. Trans is on, everything is coming together. I am going to run around getting parts, and when Glynn wakes up we get the drivetrain in the car and interior buttoned up. Werd.

Glynn and his engine harness magic.

New location of the VTEC oil line and got the sensors in and good.

Clutch assembly all ready to go.

SHe’s getting there.

Almost ready to drop in, we need a few socket sizes to get the freeze plugs off and other misc things.

Updates!

We changed the freeze plugs out for the oil sensor adapter. Wasn’t too bad at all.

Mounts and all wiring completed, though I need to scavenge junkyard parts to complete mounting the harness. All parts are torqued, though we took off the side trans mount. The hose was a mock-up for running the sensor wires, not whats going in. Also had to swap injectors, my older gsr harness has different clips. Props to Glynn for the engine harness, it was all him.

The setup. Ran 2 1000 lbs rated straps wrapped and hooked.

And…

It went in pretty nicely. Had to use a log and jack combo to level out the motor, plus a little stomping but it was fun. All mounts are in and torqued.

xD

Fresh!

I need to get down there soon, I’m thinkin next week brah

Good times man

Thanks man! You kind of were this last time, you had so much work in the car and really had a lot setup ready to go. xD

Anytime you want to come down would be awesome! But if you have other things to do I completely understand, especially considering logistics and everything.

That was great! Especially getting sorta of drunk off PBR going on 40 hours with no sleep. lolololol

Thanks again for all your hard work, couldn’t have done much without your expertise!

LOL, well right on, glad I could help out stll  But if you don’t have anything going, maybe Tues or Wed

damn again nice work:)

Haha for sure man! ANy time you want to come down I can make time for!

Thanks! Had a bunch of help this time! Woot!

love how your cluster turned looks great!!!

wow i just read the whole thing… good job man,

Thanks man! Means a lot!

Haha sorry for the bring read :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks!

Small updates.

I got some work done last night, forgot my camera though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today I prepped for tonight, motivated by my battery parts arriving today. Now all I need is my Honda order with a bunch of misc fasteners and I should have this car running!

My spark wire cover. I sanded it with 1000 grit and will probably leave it that way, I like the brushed satin finish it now has. Anyways, if I ever wanted it polished I could always finish it.

Before

After

My power wires arrived. Its a taylor kit with 2 ga power and negative.

And the distribution block.

Got my LEDs in the mail and bought a soldering gun. The bulb socket wires have to be spread out and soldered in. Boo! After a few “how to solder” youtube videos, I am going to try and tackle it.

Lastly took the new linkage and ground the end down. I looked at my old one and basically ground and rounded the spots that were obviously rubbing. hopefully it clears.

Sanded and ready for primer/paint

My brother also came by and helped out immensely. Cleaned the wheelwells, OMG there is actually paint behind all that stuff!

Man! A ton of work has taken place since I last checked… Things are looking great! I bet you can almost hear it running

Motivating for sure.

Thanks man! I was wondering when you were going to stop by xD. She will be running soon enough! I am dropping off my Valve cover to PFAB on Sunday to weld the bung in and powdercoat. Can’t fire it up without a PCV system.

I got a little work done last night. Updates are all minor until my Honda order arrives. I can’t put the fenders on or complete the interior until that damn package arrives.

First soldering job ever. Looks hacked because I had to cut the housing pretty well to get it big enough for the solder and iron to fit.

Primed and painted the linkage.

Bulbs are in, the Oil BAR gauge is dim, must be the gauge itself as swapping lights does nothing. This particular gauge will be replaced by a wideband when I get the cash anyways.

Tentatively ran the power wire. I am going to have to pull the rear panel to secure it, I don’t want it flopping around. Battery is there just to test my wiring and lighting.

Hah, I was in Lake Tahoe for the majority of last week so my online time was cut pretty short… that and work has been kicking my ass lately.

After seeing all of your LED work I nearly want to do a once-over on my stuff and clean all the dash/climate switches and stuff but, meh! Lol

Where are you welding the bung, and where is your can gonna be located? Not that there are a ton of locations available under our hoods, but its always nice to see other options.

With any luck I will have some updates to post on my hooptie after this weekend… [ninja]

whoa, you definitely got some work done. looking awesome! cant wait to see it all finished. great build man
