Carlitos' SoCo build thread

Motor sat for about 3 months, then it sat for another 8 months after I bought it. I think the seals were on the way out, they had hondabond all over them in an attempt to cure an existing leak. The cam seals were a small leak, I could have ran with it. The big (gigantic) leak is a seperate one from the oil donut thingie.

Come hang out Monday! Yay! If of course you don’t get too busy lol.
With the motor running (even in neutral) the enertia is enough to make the transsmission/differential want to turn… with no half-shaft (and/or MTF) that’s is a bad thing…

I would pull the oil-filter off, make sure the main sandwich-plate bolt is snug, make sure all accessory/allen plugs are teflon’d and snug, and go from there. That big of a leak HAS to be visible from the topside of the engine bay, one would think.

I finally dropped my pump and replaced the front main seal and oil-pan gasket… I now have a leak-free motor! Use that as some inspiration and get that bitch done!! ;)
Your thread is always inspiring man. When I saw your seal replaced I really got to thinking it wouldn’t be that bad. It won’t, I just really don’t want to pull the pan lol.

That sucks about not being able to run the car without hurting the trans. It is full up on mtf. We’ll get it figured out.

The seal was cake, bro. I thought it was going to be much worse. My brother helped out, so that made things go smoothly…

With an extra set of hands helping you, you’ll get it knocked out quick.

Keep us updated!

In for updates. That thing looks sexy on those Lover Souls.

Thanks for the words! I didn’t order the oil pan gasket, I do have the seal though. It doesn;t look to be leaking, if it is I’m going to try and pull it out with the pump still in using a screw or something. I don’t think it will come to it. I did order all 4 cam seals and some misc parts, nothin fancy though. Just wating on my hondapartsunlimited order to arrive!

Thanks man! No updates save for taking the timing side apart and cams out of the motor. I did spend my birthday chillin, drinkin and washing cars though.

Heres some pics of the RS.

Figured I would wash the wifee’s while I was at it.

So as soon as the seals are here I get the car up and running. Oh yeah!

Man the teggy is looking good! Needs a lip LMAO

Good stuff! That RS is looking great.

It shouldn’t take long to replace those seals and re-assemble. I’m excited for you… Its a GREAT feeling to have a leak-free motor lol. Spring is right around the corner, get that thing on its wheels!

Our first local organized ‘spring meet’ is later this month, the 25th… I’m trying to use that as inspiration to sand and buff my car, but eh, I just feel so unmotivated. But be on the lookout as, naturally, some decent pictures will follow

Thanks man! And yes she needs lip bad :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks! I do love my RS, I’m still very happy with it. I want to mod it but must resist.

To be honest you’re car is beautiful as is, I could only imagine when it gets its final wetsand. If you sand and buff your car, I’ll have to use that as inspiration to sand and buff the RS. Been meaning to do that. But I did put some work in on the wheels.

Btw I have been eyeballing your omnipower TB. Does it give any power? Been thinking it would sit nicely on the green teg.

A GSR tb is 60mm… a Type-R is 62mm, mine is 70mm. It definitely lets the motor breathe better. Especially if you port-match it to the intake manifold.

Just get the screw tack-welded and it will be brand new. A local buddy with a 600whp d-series runs the same unit and says he tack-welded the screws from day 1 and hasn’t had any issue with them backing out.

Let me know if you want it, I’ll give you a good deal.

Sounds good! Yeah Ive been ayeballing it, but am always like must resist! Haha email me the best price and we can go from there :stuck_out_tongue:

Thought I would update real quick. Got all 4 cam seals in, some other misc stuffz.

How the motor is sittin.

The cam seal leaks.

Can’t tell if this is leaking. Didn’t realize it got washed out by the flash at the time.

Fresh parts, already got oil stains on some.

Ready to reinstall and cmas are hype R yeah!

And got my birthday present from my uncle in primer for the RS. Hype R ‘style’ front lip.

My new point and shoot is pretty cool, messing around with one of the features. Hey its new to me :stuck_out_tongue:

that lip should really go well with the RS

Glad to hear you found and got that leak fixed.

Its sort of unfixed. Thanks for the compliment!

Update V.ungood

Alright so we found the leak. Glynn came over and we got the motor all buttoned up, all seals replaced and timed. Good to go. Well, come to find the leak is at the oil pressure sensor, and the block is cracked in that location. Curtis you called it. Looks like it was damamged when the previous owner installed a 1/8th NPT fitting for vtec in the 1/8 British threads which are incompatable. So I have a cracked block at that location and will be removing the engine this weekend. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to do this. Also got the car reinsured and registered after 2 years. I think the next engine I buy will be from HMO.

Other than that all systems are a go. If anyone knows a welder who can weld aluminum let me know and he can make some cash. In the springs or mobile.

On a side note I have prepped the RS for paint and pulled or filled in all the dents.

Block damage and new ricer cam gears I’ve had in storage for 3 years.

RS sanded and prepped for paint. She had some hail damage on the roof hopefully it will be gone. I have new side skirts, front lip, mudflaps, and GSR hard plastic door moldings to do in.

And thats it.

Fucking-A… That sucks to hear about the block man. Hopefully you can find an aluminum welder to get that all sealed up for you.

That RS is looking mighty fine!

Definitely keep us updated on everything.

Sorry to hear man, this was my suspicion being that is a fairly comon problem from what ive read. One Day, maybe the 2 of us will actually get back on the road again :frowning:

Yeah it stinks. Aw well I gave it my all, learned a lot and had good times doing it. I feel I made something nice, it even runs fine if you don’t mind it leaking really really bad :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the kind words!

Haha no worries man. It sucks and is a major setback but so is life. Its just a hobby and I’m not going to let it ruin my day. Honestly I’m taking it in stride. My uncle already offered his truck to take the motor to a shop and when its done the motor is all timed so it should go quick, not planning on removing the trans.

Speaking of getting the tegs on the road I’m still going to head over this weekend and help out, possibly stay the night.

Damn I havent checked in for quite a while. Looking good carlito!

Let me know if you come up. I’ll come by and say whats up.

Lol I know!

Well its settled. Block is getting removed and making the trip north for some tig welding action.

Now I can get to work on the GSR, been busy with the RS.

I have…
DOne a bunch of bodywork to it and painted it.
Replaced all the window guides and and readjusted everything, no more rattles and the windows feel solid.
Replaced all the rubber molding with Gsr moldings I had laying around, no more dents and they hold paint better
Replaced the cluster with a 92-93 one, looks so much better.
Sourced a set of emblems, mud flaps and taurus sideskirts. Skirts are cut to fit and painted but I need to let the paint cure before I mount them.

I haven’t wetsanded or buffed it yet, but man does it shine in person! Not used to my RS being shiny lol.

WOW, That thing looks amazing!!! your work impresses me as always

Agreed… looks awesome man!
