are you planning on covering that whole you made in the trunk?
yes i have a sheetmetal floor already made just not at that place yet to install it.
Design, rules and legality have reason and function.
Take an empty straight beer can or paper towel roll stand it on end and press straight down on it. You likely can support most of your weight with it. Now take a beer can or towel roll and put a dent in the side of it and see how much weight it can support.
That main hoop is like a beer can with a kink in its side; its strength is undeniable compromised. Yea, it will still hold beer and it still looks tasty but don’t expect that “protection” to do much for you in a roll over.
Go fast, have fun and have a happy new year!

as much as i agree with conforming to rules and sanctions for mostly race cars, im pretty sure this car isnt going to be seeing as much track time as it does street time. and ANY cage in a street car is better than no cage at all, doesnt matter if its bent or not. besides he went with ERW steel anyway, that not legal in any sanction at all (in the US at least, dont know about Canuckistan)
im pretty sure he built the cage as a supplement to a really fast street car and not to conform to any sort of rules or sanction
besides no one really allows boosted H22 powered integras to race legally besides on a drag strip.
and most drag strips just want ANY cage, dont care what it looks like as long as its a cage.
this project is a great inspiration, your craftsmanship is something to be marveled, are your services for hire? id say with attention to detail and welding skills like youve got you could make a business out of it man.
and yes, good luck and happy new year man. i bet youre looking forward to spring so you can drive this horse.
In Amreeka try SCCA; SPU and NASA; Super Touring and Super Unlimited.
Even the NHRA rule book shows 180 degree main hoop bend for a reason!

just wont give it up will you. we understand all the rules and and function.
car is a street car, not a race car. may not work to 100% standards, but still will be an improvment to the factory setup.
ur not going to be in it so, this shouldnt concern u to THIS much, u said ur point, he said his. im sure if he was going to be racing hardcore, which he isnt, then there would be alot more meaning to all the points that ur making.
just like some people argue h22 is a shit engine to boost, it weighs to much, yada yada. there opinion, but in the end…:nobody:
this is what HE wants, he is very happy with what he has, if u dont like it and going to argue what he’s doing about minor details… then just STFU

Oh and Tommy has hired your dim wit as his spokes person now?
For someone who understands all the rules and function you don’t have an oversized grasp of the purpose of discussion forums or how to communicate within them.

I agree that the roll bar design is very important, but the OP said he only put it in there for a little stiffness. Not as roll protection per se…
seriously though, its been two pages of you debating (badgering) the guy about his cage, just drop it. hes not going to rip the whole thing out, redesign it and re-fab it just because some random-ass internet forum jockey decided it was time to piss in someones cereal.
the point still stands that you are badgering the guy, hes said on more than one occasion that it is what it is and that its not going to change, maybe you can use your super sleuth skills to point out something that might actually be dangerous, not some nit-picky rule that was enacted to save race car drivers in the event of some serious shit… which is most likely not going to happen on the street. imagine race crashes and try to imagine a scenario on the street where the same thing would be happening. there just isnt a place where you have a pack of cars going 10/10ths at the same time, especially not bumper to bumper. and if you are pushing 10/10ths in a pack on the street, well youre a fucking idiot and deserve to crash and die.
hes running a mostly complete interior as well, have you tried to get around a legal cage with a mostly full interior? we may be primates but i dont like climbing around monkey bars to get into my backseat for whatever reason. im sure this guy shares that idea.
if you want to debate the legality of peoples roll cages go join corner-carvers or the grassroots forums, they love picking peoples cars apart.
DB2-R81… Well, now that this is fun and all why dont you get lost if you dont have anything good to say and maybe if you want to continue arguing lets see some pics of your car and the things you have made by your own hands and not paid someone else to do and let us critique your car. Otherwise screw off and we can go on our merry way being bad car builders and overall rebelious rule breaking shitty unsafe fabricators…
GOD i love canadians!!
you guys do build some wild cars tho
thanks man we try haha…

iv heard of constructive critisism, but ur just being above and beyond anal(no pun intended)
I happen to know a thing or two, considering i graduated with honors on my A class automtive service technician, and still am a fully licenced automtive service technician, i still stand by my word when i say BAN b/c clearly ur not understanding what people are saying over, and over, AND OVER agian.
this is a hobby, not a +$100,000 full out race car that is going to be driving.
You want pictures?
I have fabricated plenty of parts, from boring the TB, to cutting the roof off and installing the cage in my car, along with every thing in-between. If there is something you would like a closer look at let me know and I will get pictures posted for you. I am more than open to evaluation and critisism, go at it.
looks great. so does the burgandy da aswell.
i dont understand y u have to cut the roof off to put a cage in. if you assemble the main hoop out of the car and then weld that in also weld in the rear bars in the car theres no real reason to do it. ive seen it done plenty of times in cars built over here. just seems like alot of extra work for a few bars.
i dont understand how people could hate on this project its by far the most serious build ive ever seen far better then an eg with all the bolt ons in the world
keep up the good work both you

Thanks!
If you look at the pictures closely you will see the chassis is a GSR, all GSRs that I am aware of were built with sun roofs from the factory. The last picture shows the car with the sun roof still installed, pre-cage.
Sun roofs in cars do not make good competition cars, they are heavy, structurally inferior and unsafe. Good enough reason to cut the roof off.
I would also disagree with you on installing a cage with out removing the roof via cutting holes in the floor or building on pedestals is structurally superior.
Here are some good pictures of the process and why

No one is hating on Tommy, no one with eyes can deny his fabulous fabrication skills. I can only wish I had the time to develop the welding ability and competence level he has demonstrated in many portions of his build.
However why he is getting hurt because someone pointed out his initial cage design is unsafe and does not meet most sanctioning codes I can not understand.
If someone had paid enough interest and taken the time to do this for me when I was building my car I would have been more than appreciative. I would have thought of it more as a complement or flattery not as a reason to feel objectionable, displeased or threatened.
A bit of contact and a few birthdays would do many of you guy’s miracles, and for those of you that think a car on the street is safer and experiences less exposure than a racetrack, lots a luck!
It is no wonder we find it difficult to legitimize our G2 car builds with most auto enthusiasts and counter to what many of you may believe I think about Tommy’s build, I know it stands as a shining example of what is possible with a bit a imagination, talent, application and plain hard work.
Pictures look great, cant deny that, and i personally dont know enough to say if it’s great or just a lot of tubes lol, looks like it is degined very well, and heavly re-inforced. i was just simply saying that Tonny’s car isnt going to be ment for the purpose ur car is clearly made for. any added steel like that size im sure will still do pretty good, IMO. really only one way to find out and i hope he never has to find out that way.
Great work has been show’n in both scenarios.
no hard feelings (if anyone cares)
i can weld…not that good tho lol ANYWAYS lets get back to action…
Tonny i wanna see more Updates!, and get that DAM CAR RUNNING!!!
LOL, keep up the great work
man the blue da is sexy as hell. nice fab work man
i can’t wait to get my cage made, the red integra looks so fuckin clean i just don’t want to cut up my gsr dash…
More pics h22!!!
