you think i would have put the turbo a little farther away from the headlight but i decided to go with the hi lo hids and they stick out a little farther. It took me about 3 hours to cut all the pieces and weld it up… Hopefully all this work will be worth it somehow. Thanks for the comments…
clean car!
So I managed to get a roll bar made this week only the hoop but the rest is ready to go in, but i had to bring the car home today and for the first time ever its been in my garage now so i can hopefully get some more progress done by next year now…
Tubing looks over sized, 1 3/4 inch tubing, sanctioning only require 1 ½ inch and it saves weight?
Why so many bends in the main hoop dramatically reduces its stiffness and legality?
Why is your diagonal on the right side are you going JDM?
Well i am not totally worried about the bends in it as it is 1 3/4 erw for the main hoop and chrome molly inner bars. I wanted it to follow the inner panels so it looks fairly unobtrusive. It is Totally leagal for scca once i add the rest to it and it only needs one door bar if i want it to be nhra leagal. The car only weighs 2300 lbs as it sits now so a little more weight in it doesnt matter to me at all. Overall i am not looking to break any land speed records just wanted a nice looking cage to help stiffen up the car mainly. The diagonal is the way it is so that there still is a possibility of a passenger in the rear seat if i put it in. It may seem silly the way i did it but one of my co workers has made roll bars for scca and nhra cars for 20 years so i went with whatever he said, Im just the fabricator…
Lookin awesome Tommy! You still in the same townhouse? If so I’m not too far from ya now, will have to drop by and check this thing out!
Better get your co-worker to re-read the SCCA GCR again, the portion shown in your pictures is not legal in a number of ways; ERW is not legal after 2003, main hoop maxium 4 bends totaling 180 degrees plus or minus 10 degrees, positioning of the diagonal relative to the driver, the different types tubing and diameters used… looks nice however unsafe and dead weight.

dont be hatin man, cars clean as hell, sure it’s not " perfect" to spec, but who cares, cars clean, still looks like it could hold good. like he said he’s not going be going 200mph or w/e…it’s unique, clean looking. Id rock it if i had that skill:)
and i dont think he’s worried about an extra few pounds when it’s light allready for 1 and it’s a h22 Turbo. so he’s gonna have some good torque to haul all that “dead” weight.
love what your doing, keep up the GREAT work.
my 2 cents…

Hello Thepolishman,
That is the difference between show and serviceable or you and me, children and fish are generally drawn to shiney things because they attract their awareness not for what they can do with them or how they function.
I don’t really understand people who will spend months to fabricate an outstanding performance vehicle only to finish it off with a set of “monkey bars” because it looks hip.

If DB2-R81 is correct about the specs of the roll cage or roll bar (depending on how far the op is going to go with this), I would have to agree with DB2-R81. I would really hope that the car is going to be done to spec so it could be used for its purpose.
cars sick regardless i wish i had a tenth of ur talent
Look you guys i am not here to argue and really just posting picks to show you how i like to build my car but if your guys are going to tell me that i am doing sometihng wrong DONT i know that by the rules that i understand and remember that i did say its not done yet! it will be leagal when i am ready to make it so and by that i obviously wont really be road racing the car and if and when i go faster than 11.49 that is when i ACTUALLY need the cage so in the mean time i have built a cage to stiffen up my chassis and also to leave room for improvement. So if you want to rag on me i wont be back here again cause i dont need some internet geek or some guy who likes to take phrases out of books to sound smart and make me look stoopid. The guy who helped me make this hoop and such is quite knowledgable and i would tend to listen to him with his 15 or so years of experience building scca race cars.
No one is telling you how to build your car, build your car any way you want and no one is looking to argue with you, however I did assume you were bright enough not to talk nonsense and tell the rest of us about how your roll bar or cage is legal because someone told you it was. Read the dam rules for yourself.
You can down load the SCCA rules here http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=44 it doesn’t take an “internet geek” or “some guy who likes to take phrases out of books” to read!

Great fabrication skill’s is a talent! great job on the build so far!
i only commented about making sure it is in spec because I would hate to see your car not being actually used.
I mean, some people like to build a show car and some people like to build a track car and I hate to see track cars only end up being show cars (not sure if which one you are building at this point)
I am not trying to be offensive here, your build looks amazing and I would definitely love to see how the car is finished.
Don’t let the haters ruin your skill. Just do what you love to do and if they hate they hate. You’ll still sleep the same at the end of the night. Keep the updates coming cause I think I’d cry if you stopped cause I’m loving it. GLWB!:bowdown:
Thanks guys and i guess sorry to the sticklers when i said my car was legal when aparantly its not but i didnt build it or anything else on my car for any other reason than to drive it daily or at least semi daily and go have fun with it on the track on street tires. I dont care to race it Professionally in any way so when i built the roll bar i wanted it to stiffen up the chassis and who cares if it has one too many bends in it at least i dont have to jump around it and it is still comfortable to sit in. Also i am sure that it will be just as effective as a cage that is built to exacting specs… Sorry to those out there that have to think that i should do things differently but its my car and everything on it i built by hand and I hope to get it done sooner than later to start driving it again.

Keep up the good work! Looks like its coming along nicely. Cant wait to see it completed. Its a very inspiring build. It makes me want to go through my teggy and re-do everything from scratch again. Good luck with build man.
