DIY Rear Camber fix

I just helped LL Cool B with his rear camber, and he hasn’t complained about it. We used 2 per bolt. Oh yeah, he’s dropped 1.8" with H&R springs.

First of all, the only major difference you’re gonna see is when you get NEW tires. Your old tires have already worn to the point where it doesn’t matter. I used 3 washers per side before I got my Ingalls and Progress camber kits and noticed a huge difference. However, a real kit such as Ingalls or whatever will make the real difference.

Second, any correction you make will make a difference, unless logic doesn’t exist anymore.

Third, if you have no money to do it right, don’t bitch about what is or is not happening. It takes money to get results. I spent $1200 on my alignment ( all new hubs/ bearings, camber kits, labor, etc… and NO, I DID NOT GET RIPPED OFF!) I have had the same set of 17’s on my car for the past 2 years. I used to go through tires every month. Now I can’t remember when I bought the last set.

And… the car is dropped almost 3" on Progress coilovers, so those who want to argue, go for it. All I know is I dished out the cash 2 years ago and haven’t spent a penny on my suspension since.

these are new tires. Im only bitching because everyone swears by this trick and it didnt work. I dont have a forture to spend fixing it the right way but my last set of tires lasted 2 years and 30k miles without camber correction.

Then maybe you should have your tires flipped so the outside tread is on the inside and you’ll roll another 2 years or 30k miles. If you are getting such good milage on your tires then dont bother with the alignment at all.

I don’t think you’ll be able to “see” a difference but an alignment rig sure can tell. IMO, you should get this done at a shop, they will be able to even out your L/R camber, fix and toe issues, and zero out any thrust angle problems.

where can i get that done for 39 cents and a stick of gum? I already spend $3.48 on the bolts and washers to do the adjustment. My tires werent wearing all that unevenly but the wheels look crooked. The car doesnt pull and it gets great traction. I know a little adjustment is needed because the bushings are old but im told its impossible to swap all the bushings without a press and some other tools I dont have.

sorry but you must be on crack. did you even release the parking brake yet? did you put the washers behind the bracket? 3 washers should give you a noticeable camber difference, given that each one is at least 1.5mm. that shouldve given you at least a 2degree adjustment, which you can obviously see with the naked eye.

so before you start ragging on what hundreds have done successfully, maybe you should assume youve done something wrong and ask for help. describe your suspension and wheel components and your install procedure, then maybe we can begin to diagnose your problem before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.

btw, wtf welded nuts are you talking about? there should only be two bolts screwed into the frame

the wheels look crooked because your toe is off, get that realigned. but as far as the washers not working, if you don’t think it helped, then take them off, go return them and get your $3.48 back. you make it sound like $4 bucks is hella money or something. :tsk:

Wow. You people are ruthless. I just said that the trick didnt work for me and I dont understand why I cant see a difference if everyone thinks this trick is so great. Also PLEASE STOP TELLING ME WHAT I DID WRONG! I didnt do anything wrong. Ive had the same suggestions 3 times. If you are going to post read what I have posted and what others have posted so you dont look like a fool as much as you make it sound like I am as if I dont know what Im going. I wasnt dissing anyone or anything, just said that it didnt work for me and that sucks and then I get flamed? You guys are dicks. Why is eveyone so eager to flame? Gosh. I help so many people out on here with questions ranging from noob to highly technical and I have never once flamed anyone but I post and I get **** every freaking time. I think Im entitled to my opinions as with this post which was not inteded to offend anyone. Ive just about had it with the flaming on this board. Honda-tech is the only place where I can get some respect.

As for the welded nuts, Ive heard its different on 92-93 but on my 90 2 bolts go thru the frame and into 2 nuts that are welded on the other side. They are poorly welded so they can break free easily. There is at least one other post you could search for about a dud that broke one of the bolts off but I dont know how he fixed it. All I know is I had to cut thru some sheet metal.

i apologize. its just hard to believe it doesnt work when youre the first out of hundreds to come out with this problem. the only reasonable explanation is your car itself. was it salvaged? something is definitely wrong with your suspension.

the fact is, our cars lower from 1-4 inches. camber correction is from 5-15mm, which is roughly 1-4degrees.

the flaming probably couldve been avoided if your subject had read something like, “rear camber trick doesnt help, still lots of negative camber”

ok i used 3 washers because my camber was already nearly correct. How many did everyone use?

 so is it fixed now?

no it looks sick but it doesnt wear funny. Not corrected. Basically nothing has changed since I put the washers in, or at least nothing I can tell. I guess I’ll have to drive some more to see what happens on these new tires.

you do realize that for the washer trick to fully work, you need to get an alignment after putting the washers on. putting the washers on without getting an alignment will mess up your toe settings. so now your tires are gonna wear out faster until you get an alignment.

ya postive camber = toe out = BAD steering, handling, tire wear
neg camber = toe in = better, but should be close to spec

you know, if you really cant tell where you stand, you can pour some water in front or on the tires, then drive it a few yards to see what your wet tread looks like. before and after results are very obvious with mine

but it still looks negative

Two words:

Professional Alignment.:sucks:

Aint got no money. Im a starving college student who gets no government aid because my parents make too much money but are in debt from years of unemployment which the government doesnt take into account but thats another story. Im doing the best I can with my lunch money.

I did it with 2 and it looks great!
3.00 for washers
45.00 for a four wheel alignment.

where do you get an alignment so cheap?
