id get your rsr so quick if i had a job and lived near you. haha but yeah man sucks about not getting what you wanted even though you realize that you sorta already had what you wanted and that was to be happy. so im siked for you man and i’m gonna keep an eye out for any further updates.
lol. It cleaned up really well man. I’m surprised that it’s in such good condition. Other than the resonator having scrape along the bottom and two minor dents it’s perfect. I’m going to list it locally and see if I can get what I want for it. If not, then I’ll start posting it up on sites starting with this one. I wont let it go cheap, but I doubt there is another one out there for sale right now that’s in as good a condition as this one.
Anyway, thanks man. I’ll keep things updated as they happen.
yeah man forsure! ill be here waiting haha. i know it will find a good home
So little update.
I decided to go out and have some fun last night and see what the car could do against my friends Grand Prix. The Grand Prix is a turbo 3.5L v6 on about 12psi. No idea what it makes because its just on some mail order tune. I’m still on 6psi no idea my power level either. We agreed to do a 20 even though I knew I would spin like crazy and not surprisingly…I did, to the point where I screwed something up.
I spun all through 1st and then all through 2nd and by the time I hooked it wasn’t even close. After that as I was cruising I noticed my rpms started jumping around on me and I was misfiring really bad. Well today I took the distributor off cause I figured something must of gone wrong with it and when I did I found this.
My car has a the curse of loose nuts and bolts I swear. I guess the solid motor mounts are just slowly vibrating everything loose lol. I took the entire thing apart and put blue loctite on every screw in that thing. I also swapped out the icm with a spare one I had just in case it was going out causing the misfire. I also got a new set of spark plugs. After all that I put it back on the car and went for a drive. All is well again. Car runs like a champ.
Glad it was an easy fix =]
WOOOOOOOO!
Ordering Hondata tomorrow =] Was going to have my fab guy make me a new exhaust and put the rest of the money towards Hondata, but he’s unavailable till April soooo Hondata it is.
I also just started two more classes at our local community college. One is advanced Tig welding, and the other is into to layout and fab. The fab on is cool because we get to choose a project of our choice and design and make it. I’m going to see if I can use my exhaust as my class project. Would be cool to say I fabbed up my own part for once. Well I’ve done some other things myself, like the belt tensioner and tq damper, but those were small. I want to do something big. I will see
Anyway…woooo Hondata finally! :excite:
congratz dude! i want to take some classes like that haha
They’e fun. I never understood why peolpe charged so much to weld stuff until I learned how to do it myself. It wasn’t as easy as it looks. It’s a lot of fun though once you get the hang of it.
So officially ordered Hondata YAY!! Can’t wait for it to get here =] Not looking forward to learning an entire new program and completely redoing my tune, but I know it’ll be worth it and the car will run so much better
glad it was just the distributor, congrats on the class and on the s300 purchase. im looking forward to seeing updates
Me too. Love when things are a simple, easy and free fix lol.
I went out and messed around a bit again last night. Ran my friends supercharged buick (different one than last time), and my friends mazda speed 6. Both are slightly modded. I got the mazda on all three 30 rolls, and the buick and I were neck and neck. I then did a 40 with the buick and got him by about half a car. We were definitely evenly matched. 30 rolls are low in 2nd gear so not exactly my speed roll to start from. Good times though, and nothing broke or went wrong this time…other than the fact that we didn’t have cameras =[ lol
Can’t wait for Hondata! I hope I can figure it out and pick up how to use it quick
IT’S HEEEEEEERE!!! :excite:
Sooo excited I finally bought this. It’s been a long time coming
I’ve got the Cobb meet, our regular weekly meet, and then our monthly Cars & Coffee all coming up later this week. I wont have time to learn Hondata and make a new tune before then so I’m going to wait to have my friend install it until after all that.
Love this car and this thread. Keep us posted on learning Hondata, someday I have to sit down with it and figure it out.
Thanks. I’ve been reading up on what I can and it doesn’t seem too complicated. It just has a lot more features and ways of changing things compared to crome which is what I’m used to.
A few of my exhaust parts came in today =]
3" stainless flex pipe
3" stainless male/female style v band clamps. It was $80 for these bastards =[ lol
The two Vibrant stainless 02 bungs got here yesterday. I didn’t take a picture of those though. Now I’m just waiting on the two 90 degree bends and the straight pipe. I didn’t order enough to do the entire exhaust cause I’m broke, but I got everything I need to make the downpipe portion of it. I’m just praying now that I don’t screw any of the welds up when doing the v bands or warp them. Fingers crossed
So after getting in all my parts to make my downpipe I realized the bends I got weren’t tight enough to work. So I’m forced to make a bunch of pie cuts out of the straight pipe. I bought a 3in cardboard tube to make it out of first so I didn’t ruin my expensive pipe. This is what I ended up making
I started cutting the pieces out of the stainless pipe yesterday in class. Once I get them all cut, I’ll tack a them up and test fit again to make sure it’s all good before fully welding them together.
Also, my friend has my ecu right now and is putting Hondata in for me. Hoping to have it back tomorrow to start messing with it.
Oh two photos of my car I took at cars and coffee over the weekend

Oh and I got to see a Mclaren P1 and a Lamborghini Huracan for the first time. The P1 such an amazing piece of engineering.
Thanks.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here…oops. Not much has happened anyway. Car has been down for a few weeks due to the catch can filling up and overflowing =[ I did a compression test, all was good and I found out it was due to the breather fitting on the rear of the block. Things are garbage and useless. They suck up more oil than a hooker sucks…you get the idea. Anyway I came up with a way to to modify the stock pcv breather box that hopefully will work.
I welded on a big 3/4th barb fitting (-12an equivalent) to run to the catch can, and then welded a block off plate for the other hole that was there.
I’m hoping since this box is baffled it will keep the oil in the block where it belongs and not suck it up into the catch can.
I finally got around to making my own secondary belt “tensioner” as well. I didn’t feel like spending 150-200$ on a real one so made this one for $5. It’s far from pretty and my aluminum welds are about as ugly as possible, but it’s functional. Due to the head being milled the distance between the crank and cam gears becomes slightly shorter which means the timing belt has a small amount of slack left in it even when properly adjusting the stock timing belt tensioner. This secondary “tensioner” isn’t really for tensioning the belt. It’s just there to rest up against it and prevent the belt slap/smack that occurs due to the small amount of excess slack. I didn’t do a before or after video, but there are examples on youtube
Should have the car back up and running this weekend and find out if my little engineering projects have worked…fingers crossed
I had the same issue with the Tensioner/Timing belt after getting the head shaved and block decked. What I did was, notched the tensioner hole in order to get a few more mm. of adjustment. It worked like a charm.
Hmm never thought of that. If this thing ever fails I might just do that.
Soo picked up my ecu from my friends house today complete and finished with Hondata installed =] He also had a little fun making some decals for the ecu cover.
AIV is an abbreviation for my username on most other sites which is AlwaysInVtec. So he put AIV Racing. And “Souless Tuning” is just a joke between my friends and I because I have red hair and tune my own car. Red hair…ginger…no soul hahaha, yeah. And yes we know soulless is spelled with two “L”. I think that looks weird though so one L it is.
Annnyway. I’m going to put it into the car tomorrow, well later today now since it’s 2am. Hopefully it all works, fingers crossed. I’m trying to find someone with a timing light and then i’ll get started tuning =]
Put the ecu back in the car today. I decided to mount it over the carpet so I could actually see it.
And then I had to take it right back out
I just get a solid cel. I pulled the jumper off the j1 pin so the ecu would run on the stock chip and the solid cel went away. So I know the wiring in the car is still ok and so are the fuses. Something went wrong in the soldering and it wont read the Hondata chip.
I’m depressed.
I’m sure it can be fixed, but this ecu has been messed with so many times and the board looks so hacked up I’m not willing to mess with it anymore. I’m just going to find another p28 that has never been touched. Hopefully all goes well next time
Can’t wait to see you post about your experience with the s300, I’ll be buying one soon but not sure whether I want to mess with it or just have it Dyno tuned.
If you’ve already got some tuning experience then I say go for it. Should be easier than tuning with anything else.
I just picked up a new unmodified and untouched p28 today =] Hopefully I’ll have better luck with this one.
As for my exhaust I got all the pie cuts made
I marked up how they need to go and then tacked them together. Not sure what happened cause it’s a different shape from the cardboard model I had made, but whatever it works.
Hopefully I can get all the pie cuts fully welded up this week and continue on. I gotta add in a flex pipe and two o2 bungs as well
Props! That’s an extremely tight bend. I’ve never tuned so I’ll decide what to do after doing some research on s300 tuning
