fuel pump kill switch security

i know this is an old thread but i was installing mine today on my 91 ls and i looked on alldata and i saw the 7 pin which is yellow ith a black stripe ( corner or connector) is the wire for the fuel pump… is it the yellow or the green.

what about one from the starter or ignition?

good write up…the only frustrating thing for me to do is find a place for the switch. stupid switch is hard to mount so that means i have to think about fabricating something to hold it. anyone have any pics of their fabricated mounts. (dont have to show where u put the switch)

+1

this is a pretty good tip
i just got back in from checking if the green/black wire was there
and i found everything.
i just need to pick up wires and a switch today so i can get things started!

SIMPLYDISCRETE!

So I made this modification about three weeks ago and it’s worked great until yesterday. I went out to start it and nothing happened. I checked to make sure everything was in the on position and tried again and still nothing.

Is there any reason this would make my main fuel relay fail? When I turn the key everything happnes as normal, but I can’t hear the fuel pump turn on (I did remove the bottom of the rear seat so I could hear better too).

Is there a way to test the mfr?

Thanks

idk how old this thread is but it was a BIG help!!

Nice write up. Very good tip.

so it cranks and stuff? check ur wires… cuz if u cant here it prime probably somethin’s up w/ the wires becuz u did tamper with it… or maybe its jus fuel pump gone bad… but im assuming it was working before.

Yea everything was working fine for a few weeks. I drove it Saturday night and when I went out Sunday afternoon it wasn’t working. I’m going to the junk yard this weekend to find a MFR so I’m hoping that will help.

Everything still works the same, there just isn’t any “click” from the MFR or the pump. When I took off the relay it had the melted solder points and it was all brown as well (like one that had gone bad).

My fuel kill switch video…

props!

wut else?

wut else cant u hook up a kill switch to? i know the fuel kill switch is probly the easiest, but im just wondering?

and oh yeah, who wants to tell me where they put their switch? please include the address where u park ur DA…lol jk

hey really…i hooked my switch up to the green/blk wire, but this doesnt work everytime…it will work once, then ill try again - wit the switch in the same position and my teg will turn on and drive away

maybe your mfr just has broken solder points in it. What i do is just take the mfr out and walk around with it.

huh? solder?
walk around wit it?
sorry, i havent messed around with my fuel line/fuel system/main fuel relay at all

the relay usually goes bad when the solder points inside crack. sometimes it’ll turn on and sometimes it will not. if your pump isn’t priming upon opening the switch to run (most of the time) then your relay solder points probably broke loose. you can fix it by re-soldering them or replacing the relay altogether. check to see if your pump primes when you turn the starter switch to start. if not, then replace it. if it clicks and the pump starts priming, then you messed something else out. i am assuming that the wire you messed with goes to the fuel relay.

i said that i “carry around my mfr” because it’s just easier to take it off than to mess with making a switch that can be discovered.

edit… i totally misread your post.

get another switch. maybe it’s defective or there is metal behind wherever you mounted it and it is closing the circuit.

a lot of things

i’ve done a battery kill switch into my battery trunk relocation. i rigged it into a din cover and i have a key for it, so it’s not a kill switch ON the battery. I recently bought an ECU kill switch. it’s a pain if you have preset radio station(i don’t)

thinking of doing this tomorrow, where should i put the inline fuse? between the toggle switch and the relay? or between the switch and the pump itself? or both?

also, according to the Haynes Manual its a YELLOW/BLACK wire that goes to the fuel pump. whats up with that?

:bump:

for an answer, I’d like to get a confirmation on this before I go cutting wires to the most critical part of my cars fuel system.
