half sized civic radiator fitment

I hane a Auto LS w/ 150K on it and have done a complete tune-up with leak and compression test. The motor is in great shape!! I am wanting to turbocharge it and am new at this. I saw this thread and asked myself a question I didn’t know the answer too. Do I have to swap the radiatir to be able to turbocharge it? I have a E-bay turbo manifold, 1G Eclipse turbo, starion intercooler, and a home made down pipe. Have not started yet, because I have not finished collecting the peices.

Not necessarily. You only really have to change it out if you have fittment problems.

hello there, i have a turbo integra. I am using a fluidyne radiator, moved the two brackets, or stoppers as you can say where the stock full size radiator lays on. They are welded in, so just hit it up with a chizzel and hammer or screwdriver. Move it to where it is needed so you can have more room and weld them back on where needed. Was pretty easy to do, and fits really good. Ill have to post some pics up when I have time.

Well, today we took the civic radiator out and replaced it with a CRX full core radiator. It’s half as thick as the factory teg’s and it bolted right on!! No mods need it, just slide it in

interesting. thanks for the heads up. how did you build your lsvtec?

Close ups of what? my wife? :shy:

Ok, I’m gonna try to answer some of the questions here.

1)The civic radiator only has one stick ( if you wanna call it like that) on the bottom and the teg frame has two holes to hold the radiator. One hole is on one side and the other one is on the other side. The sticks on the bottom of the radiator goes in there. Now since the civic only has one stick, you can only use one hole. That’s how we installed it in my car. The top of the radiator will need to be secure. The radiator brackets from my teg didn’t fit so I had to use my head for this one. We used some zip ties. Tied them pretty good and the radiator was secure. Didn’t move for nothing!

Now, with the CRX full core radiator; that one bolts right up! every fits like if it was the stock teg radiator. The only advantage is that its half thinner than the teg’s.

  1. The only reason why I swapped radiators was for more space. I’m in the process of doing all the turbo pipes and need as much space as I can and with the teg radiator there was no space at all since I’m keeping my A/C.

  2. my block is almost stock except for the JE 9:1 pistons and eagle rods.

Head: Sir II head with ITR retainers & springs and more stuff. I just dont feel like typing everything

i fabbed custom lower mounts out of aluminum & riveted them to the lower radiator support in order to gain enough clearance to fit the del sol radiator. the stock mount sits too high & would make the radiator hit the hood.

well i got mine in. i basicaly let it sit there, and it is held in place (from the top) with one of the old brackets that i just put a bolt through the core support…the bottom is held in by the crossmember and barely moves.

you will have to buy some garden clamps to keep the hose from fallng off and if you have ABS its a tight fit down below.

the fan is held on by zipties and i had to tinker with it to get it to fit and have enough room when time comes for a downpipe.

i also paid $100 from autozone (the website, not the store) and like $10 for a new cap. oh well…

hey dan i would flip the wastegate around & try to find some space for a dumptube. you really don’t want the exhaust gases from the wastegate to be pointed at your valve cover. your engine will get dirty real fast & may melt the valve cover gasket.

i really dont have a choice as of now… its either at the block or at the radiator, and id rather have a dirty valve cover than overheat… eventually i think i just want to cut off that flange adn re-weld it pointing downward…i might be able to fab up a dumptube a little easier like that…we’ll see, i have emissions in a few in march! eek…

no visual just fuel and c02 crap, any ideas?

redstargsr- props on the turbo setup. i like the way it looks. i like that log manifold too. who makes that? it appears that your compressor inlet is facing the drivers side of the car. how do you plan to hook up a filter?
vntec- if u r out there you should check his setup out. its a lot like what you are wanting to do.

turbogeekda6–

i am either going to be running a screan on the filter end or cramming a filter on there, one fits but its very tite with the charge piping in place… I opted to make the compressor face the drivers side to make it a little easier while making a downpipe…

emissions in march? any chance of waiting till after to finish your turbo setup? what are you using to supply & control fuel?

oh and are you going to redo the oil feed line? i would hate for the line to melt from the heat of the manifold and destroy your car. looks like you can wrap the line from the tranny side. good luck!

i am running uberdata, 450s + resistor box…tuning througha wideband. turbo is pretty much complete, i just will lean it out and run a cat…it should pass, their not too strict around here.

i am going to stry and locate a 45degree fitting because it wont fit going around teh tranny site…weird eh… thanks for teh comments.

just some info for guys doing a turbo b18. Do not use a civic half radiator thats the reason why you are overheating, the half one cant handle it hardly at all. If you are going turbo use the crx, you will be way better off for cooling purposes

does it matter what year del sol that you get the radiator from or does it matter

The single core civic or Del sol radiator will not work on our boosted cars; if you really wanna go that route, get a dual core civic or Del sol radiotor. I personally got a 96 LS teg radiator. Its a full size but twice as skiny as ours. It works perfect! :naughty:

thats cool but i was trying to go with a half size because of fitment issues

So, no more CRX radiator?? The G3 Teg radiator fits?? I have been wanting to get FAL fans, but the Teg application is only for G3’s…but I figured the G3 application should work in a G2, especially if I can get a G3 radiator in my G2…that with FAL fans should be fairly thin setup, huh??

I was personally going to go to the junk yard and get some pusher fans off of a Mercedes and put them between the FMIC and the radiator. By doing that, I’ll have gone from one fan to two, and I’ll have more room to run a pipe to the compressor for an intake, instead of the screen I’m using now.

heres my new setup one 12" and one 9" 1300cfm each pushers…gonna put it in tommorow…theres so much room under the hood now, I could sleep in there

(the bigger one is one the wrong side though in this pic, should be vice versa)
