those wheels and colour will go perfect on your teg
Second this! poor teggyj, all cooped up in that tiny little garage /storage shed. lol
Damn those almost looked like 16s. Haha.
Glad I finally got to see what they look like on a white Da. I like em.
Glad you got that carpet in there finally, and glad it went to a worthy person who’s gonna take care of it
Thanks fellas! It is coming along, slowly but surely. Apparently next week is supposed to be close to 60F… if this is the case we might have to see about pulling the car cover off of it.
Yessir! The plan is for the trunk/carpet not to see much in the way of cargo… I’ll definitely be keeping it clean. Thanks again!
I’ve found that it’s the small things that reinvigorate my passion in this project.
Well, the weather let up enough to take the old whore out for a drive today… Swapped out the non-functional fan switch for the BuddyClub unit… Still haven’t seen my fans kick on, but the temp gauge read normal. shrug
Snapped a couple quick photos. Yes, it needs lowered.
And, I stopped at a local dealership to window-shop… noticing I had parked right in front of the BadAss Coffee Company store, I tried to get their logo above the Teg lol.
Yeah yeah, the lighting was terrible… Whatever.
The bottom end feels fantastic… but for some reason the top end doesn’t feel all that great. Nothing to do with the tune, it just doesn’t feel as strong as I had wished.
Either way, I’m glad it runs well… But I’m glad I don’t drive it on the daily… Modded suspension and motor mounts make for a bitch of a drive. My Saab feels much more comfortable after spending the day in the DA lol.
Came up on a decent find today… a local guy had a hood bra that he wanted to get rid of. It was in decent enough shape… there is one small tear on the back-edge where the hood meets the bumper (by the A on the hood), but it is not visible once installed.
Also, one of the plastic strips was bent, making the raised portions of the bra very non-symmetrical. My slight OCD kicked in and I had to remedy this. I took the plastic strip out, heated it with a heat gun and stuck a heavy metal plate on top to straighten it out. After two attempts, I got it perfect. Now it looks as it should.
After a good cleaning this will be a great way to avoid rock chips on long drives… and also maybe a little flare for car meets etc.
Anyways, I’ll just leave this here:

love the last pic… yeah mines feeling like it needs a freshening up on the top end…
have you thought of running a low temp thermostat? they’re great. anyways glad to see you were able to drive it…
I haven’t really thought much about a different thermostat… the one I’m using is a brand new OEM ITR unit.
When I replaced my fan switch, I let the car idle for about 10min in the driveway, varying RPMs and everything… the fans didn’t come on. The lower radiator hose was still cold, so the thermostat hadn’t opened yet. I drove it for about 12miles and checked again… the hose was barely warming up… still not hot at all, nor were the fans running.
At the end of the day with normal operating temperature indicated on the dash, I felt the hose again and it was indeed quite hot… so I know it’s opening.
I really don’t know what to make of it.

NOOOOOO!
I guess I just don’t understand the allure of these front end bras. Cars look SO much cleaner w/o them. And they get a lot of flack from detailers and enthusiasts for actually causing more damage than they prevent…
Yeah i had that concern before too. my fans would never kick on. i ended up running one constant for awhile until i got the thermostat and felt more comfortable with the bay temp. buy a remote temp reader like for rc cars if you wanna see your temps at different stages. i know DA temp gauges always say their good temps but
maybe its just me but my various DA’s always seemed extra hot when you pop the hood versus other cars.
The stock gauge will tell you if things are getting dangerously hot, but they won’t tell you what the temps are. They can easily fluctuate 10-30deg w/o the stock gauge even moving. I was having some cooling issues coming back from the track, my Autometer was saying I was around 210-215 deg (normal is 195ish) and the stock gauge didn’t even budge.
No worries Colin… as I said it’s moreso something I’ll put on if I go on a road trip or prolonged highway use. I definitely won’t keep it on for long periods of time. You know I like my paint… if I see any issues at all, it will be sold asap.
As far as the temp goes… I’ll just keep a close eye on things. Is there anything else I should check? If I jump the fan-switch connector the fans fire up instantly. I was under the assumption that this rules out other issues and pin-points the fan-switch as being the culprit. Hence it being replaced… If there is anything else that comes to mind, let me know… the last thing I want is cooling issues.
The car saw plenty of different driving types yesterday… Neighborhood driving, highway, slow/stop&go traffic etc… never did the temp fluctuate at all.
if your cooling system is efficient and obviously your motors strong i wouldnt imagine your fans needing to turn on much. mine hardly do and i live in the desert. i only noticed a difference on my setup when i switched
thermostats. it runs now at a lower constant.
The fans should pretty much only go on when the car is stopped, once you get up to speed the fans aren’t gonna help and actually hurt airflow. Fan switches rarely go bad, however relays go bad all the time. The majority of the time I’ve seen people’s fans stop working it’s a problem with the relays or control unit or some other unexplained wiring/electrical issue. I don’t think I’ve personally ever seen a bad switch or bad fan motor (not saying they don’t fail).
I hate the OEM fan wiring, it’s over complicated. Assuming you’re not running AC then you can just ditch all the relays and control unit. All I run is the switch and the fan, nothing but wire between them.
I yanked the AC pump/lines and swapped in the non-ac heater duct as well… but didn’t touch any relays.
Reading up on what you posted earlier this year, this may be something I have to do. I don’t much like wiring but the idea of this is appealing. Any advice or specifics on what you pulled out and what you wired?
You’re diagnostic is good. If you jump the connector at the switch and the fan turns on then the circuit is good. Start the engine and rev at 2000rpm while you’re parked. The fan will come on within 5 minutes. The oem temp gauge in the cluster is horribly inaccurate. I reach 230* on the highway sometimes on really hot days and the stock gauge reads normal.
Btw I wanted to add that the hood bra does damage the paint a bit. If you’ve seen pics of my car I always have the bra and fender pieces and it scratches the paint. I’ve noticed that it’s worst on the highway where the bra flaps around a bit sometimes. It does come off though with a light polish but still just wanted to let you know. My paint sucks so I couldn’t care less but yours is nice so just keep an eye on that.
I pretty much just ditched the relays, I forget now if I found the fan control module or not. If you understand 12v electrical systems and can read a Helms its a pretty straightforward task. I have a copy of a g3 helms I think that shows the ITR wiring and in copied that setup except kept mine ground switched (whereas the ITR is switched on the hot side).
Hit me up anytime if you have any questions.
Thanks redtegra. I was surprised that even after driving it, once I got home, the fan still hadn’t come on. I’m just going with the idea that it wasn’t hot enough. As far as the bra goes, if I notice any odd wear it won’t be used. I figured I could always sell it if it doesn’t get used.
After remembering where I put my manual I looked into the cooling diagrams.
It listed both US/Air-Con models and the Non-AC model… while there is a ton of extra shit, the task is simple, as you said. I’m not going to cut anything back… just connect the appropriate wires and remove the relays. Then tuck the wiring as best as possible and hopefully clean up that area of the bay.
Thanks for the idea Colin
Of course man! It was one of those “aha!” moments when I read thru the wiring diagrams and figured out what was really going on. All this talk about wiring makes me want to go clean up my bay some more! But I’m too lazy and won’t be doing that unless I pull the engine to paint the bay. Which I’d LOVE to do, but there’s no point unless I can get a hookup on paint.
