Long build in process.

Only if I can Haz rotaz HAHA

Not much progress, really.

I met a local G2IC’er last as he has a shell he is parting out. I got a few parts and checked out his ride. I tried talking him into making a build thread, but he wasn’t having it lol. Buuuut… I got me a driver-rear bumper bracket, and an interior c-pillar trim/garnish as I broke mine when taking the interior apart.

First thing this morning I buttoned up the rear bumper, rear/tail panel, tail lights, fuel door and secured the S2k antenna. So the rear is finished. Just need to clip the trunk-plastics in place and then find me a trunk carpet.

No updated pics as it basically looks the same as last time, but now the bumper and tail-lights are held on by more than a single nut/bolt!

Still need to align the front end, and make some new plastic door-seal/inserts (behind the door panel to keep air/dust out)… those are the next projects. Then it can all be assembled. I can’t wait to have my interior complete… having the door panels off just makes it seem so bare.

I’m on the home stretch, but damn it seems like there’s still a ton of work to be done lol!

Thanks for checking in fellas.

Go back to broken-laptop-land, you big jerkface!!1!

Edit
Ok ok, I took a quick couple of snaps.

First, the rear end… the fuel door co-operated and came out nicely. Fits very snug and doesn’t ‘slop’ around.

Next is the front end. Horrible hood-gap but, that will be taken care of. Nothing in the front is fully bolted down.

Lastly, I had to check the fog-output and see my hard work pay off.

The headlights really weren’t bad, I was definitely overthinking the whole process.

That’s how she sits as of this morning.

Nothing huge… but last week when I was going through my box of leftover parts, I started to realise how annoyed I am at Maaco. Much of my trim-pieces have horrible tape-lines and look like crap.

I’ve heard a bit of feedback from the Suby/VW crowd about the product Plasti-Dip… so naturally I figured id try it myself.

They sell it in either an aerosol form, or an actual liquid that you can dip parts in. I opted for the aerosol.

I first decided to do my roof/gutter trim as it looked terrible.

Before:

After:

I also decided to re-spray my wiper arms as they’re peeling and showing their age. They didn’t turn out perfect, but in comparison to my EK wiper arms, id say they look 100% better.

Anyone looking to use this stuff, be aware, the can says to do 3-4 coats, with 30min between coats… that is great if you don’t mind a ‘textured’ look… But if you’re wanting a smooth outcome, do only one to two coats, and only wait maybe 5 min.

The can sprays pretty ‘chunky’, so if the initial coats are too dry, the newly applied coats will have a ‘spattered’‘textured’ look. Keep it wet and it will flow out much nicer. I was running around thinking “what else can I Plasti-Dip??” Lol. Definitely a good product imo.

Nice, the trim Looks good, I might have to try that on my door window trim on my civic. Half of the old material ia peeling off.

Nice… just make sure to strip/peel all the old stuff off. And being that the window-trims on Civics are pretty textured anyways, you could get away with having my cure-time between coats… that would give you a near-OEM look.

And at ~$6 a can, its totally worth giving it a shot.

Everything looks great! I like the pic of the refinished trim, man that paint sparkles!

Good job, I love the build and work put into this.

Where can I buy this plasti-dip? My trim is flaking in areas, and I cannot stand the 2 chrome ‘ears’ at the upper corners of the windshield.

Am I the only one who noticed this pic has what appears to be a leopard print bra in it? What kind of lady company do you keep? Looks wild.

Wait until the car is sanded and buffed, then it will sparkle!

I actually bought it at HomeDepot, in the spraypaint section. I had to walk the aisle like 4 times until I saw it. Roughly ~$7 a can.

And yes, my windshield trim is definitely on the list of stuff to redo… as you said the chrome ‘ears’ look terrible.

Ahahahahahah, I was waiting for that to come up. Its actually just an old bedsheet. We use them at the shop to wrap freshly painted parts for transport. Its hard to find a decently soft material that’s the right size… so bedsheets FTW!!

… But yes, it is my old leopard print bedsheet. :stuck_out_tongue:

 Just the fact that you admitted it is your leopard print bedsheet makes you a man amongst boys. Oh ummmm, some employee left that and I had nothing else to use. Replaced it with cheetar I suppose?

checking in from broken-laptop-land  love how that gutter trim came out, good shit!

I know right?! I need to pick me up some of that for my new whip

The trim came out awesome… I still have a few things I plan to touch up, might end up needing another can of the stuff lol.

Some new cough eBay cough parts came in yesterday… my oem bumper lights were trash. A lense was cracked so the light would hold about an inch of water… Needless to say, I needed a new set.

With the color I painted the car, imo, amber lights were the way to go… I think they look real good.

I put in a little work over the weekend…

Finally got the front end aligned and everything buttoned up. I decided to plasti-dip my oem lip, as it was so old its beginning to look chalky. After a nice coat it looks a ton better. I think my driver-side headlight is slightly warped as it doesn’t sit flush on the radiator support. I know the car hasn’t been in a front end fender-bender, and the US-spec lights sat fine. Meh… Another set of one-pieces will have to be a future purchase.

As of this morning I threw the side mirrors on, and I also got the motivation up to scrape all of the old adhesive from the inner-door… going to replace it with some new stuff and also cut new plastic seals… the old ones were garbage.

Welp… I just need to 'dip a few misc trim pieces and install the side moldings, then the outside will be done (save for the sand and buff). Door panels, mount the oil pressure gauge, and the interior will be finished.

Then its all the small stuff:

  • Lower Balljoints
  • Paint the catalytic converter
  • Paint rims
  • Adjust ride-height
  • Alignment

And we’ll be ready to rock! So in otherwords, it will be finished just in time to put it away for the winter lol. Which works for me… I’ll save up for the dyno time and get it done first thing come Spring.

On to the pictures:

I am very impressed. Looks beautiful! No worries on the ebay lenses, I have a matching set.

BTW…a return drop kick to your wrinkle red valve cover xD

Hahahaha. I’m so over the wrinkle-red. But at the same time, I hate the color of my AN-fitting eqipped cover as well… I hate being picky sometimes!

I got the door seals finished… With that out of the way, I believe the door panels can be thrown on. Man, it feels like this thing is almost road worthy!! I had to restrain the want to drive it home today.

They definitely aren’t beautiful, but they’re functional.

Thanks for the compliments Deceptakhan… like I said, wait until its all buffed out

I’ll definitely get some decent snaps when I get it out of that back corner of the storage unit lol. Might roll it around the block tomorrow, so be on the lookout for better pictures.

So… I drove the car about 50 miles yesterday. Damn it felt good! VTEC pulls strong, and the 3" intake sounds great when the crossover takes place… vr000m!

Not that I had any scraping-issues, but I’m not really looking forward to lowering it more… its gotta happen, but ew… lol

I let my brother take it for a spin and he says he misses the low-end torque of the B18. I told him that’s what he gets for building a B16  He kept telling me hoow clean and straight the car is… and that after a sand and buff its going to make a lot of people jealous. While it made me somewhat prideful, it also makes me nervous to bring it home lol. Until I can park in the garage it won’t be making many appearances at the house.

I officially hate the stereo setups in our cars… after driving my EK around for the last few years and being used to the sound a 6.5"/6x9 combo, the 6.5"s all around sound terrible lol. No bass and I can barely hear the music with the windows down at highway speeds. Meh!

And though I hate to say it… that same old ‘spark’ doesn’t feel like its there anymore. What I mean by that is, I’m not sure I’m ‘into’ the car as much as when I first got it. I don’t mean DA-specific, I’m just kinda tired of the whole scene in general. Don’t really know what that means lol. Still going to push forward and finish it up, but, its just not the same anymore. I thought driving it yesterday would rekindle what I used to feel, but it wasn’t the same. Odd.

Good stuff! 6.5’s can sound great, my pacifica has 4 6.5’s and 4 tweets so its a little better than a 3 way, too much for the speaker to do. Still, if it isn’t a sub it just can’t hit those good ol low notes. I had some excelon 6x9’s and without a sub they just sounded…unbassful. lol

I don;t really have anything to say in general about your predicament with losing the spark. Problem is you built the car you wanted a few years ago, but times and tastes change. BUt damn man, you have one of the cleanest DA’s around, I am already jealous. If I wasn’t so sold on the AGP I would paint mine a Gunmetal, my favorite color and you can do so many things with it. I just like grays. I sometimes wonder if it will be the same for me, but then I drive the pac and am sooo bored. I can;t wait to have something exciting, or at least with 3 pedals again.

I feel you on not bringing it home, I will be parking mine elsewhere as well. I have a good friend who lives in the country, she will sleep there safe and sound with no one to steal or joyride her.

I do hope something rekindles the flame for your car. Or are you just bored with cars and ready for another hobby? Start painting ‘dork figures’ or at least what my wife calls them lol. Those little warhammer guys. $200 dollar investment in paints and brushes and you are ready to go! Though I lost that ‘fire’, just got bored with absolutely no one who wanted to do it with me and am too shy to go meet other nerds.

Yeah my post is disjointed. Im tired and ready for bed.

you can make almost any speaker sound decent with the right setup. My 6.5 mb quarts sound amazing… Only one set, nothing in the rear. I also have a 200 watt denon amp and a audio control signal booster along with some dynamat. But yeah i just stopped in for some motivation for when i go to pa next month to work on the teg. Your car is so nice, i bought the plasti dip but didn’t try it yet. I also know how you feel about the car scene, it’s part of the reason i’m taking so long to finish the teg but i hope that after i drive it again i don’t feel the same. It will be two years that i haven’t driven it in september

No updates really… haven’t driven the car since the weekend.

But I did get a nice compliment from my uncle. Last Friday when I was getting the car ready to go for a cruise, I took it for a spin through the parkinglot. Apparently my uncle heard it. Today he said “How’s the car running? I forgot to tell you… the other day when you were driving it around, it sounded awesome! Not all raspy and annoying like most rice burners out there… sounds nice and mellow, but once you opened it up it sounded mean!”

To hear that from him made my day… he’s a 48y/o guy who grew up on classic muscle and he really doesn’t care for most 4cyl cars. So to gain his approval was nice.

@Deceptakhan: I just saw your comment on my YouTube vid lol… I’ll see what I can do to get either an in-car vid or a fly-bye.

Hopefully in the next week or so I will be having my wheels powdercoated (don’t know which color yet… ideas anyone?) And will get the suspension dialed in to the height I want.

Something dark would compliment the paint color nicely.
