Lol
Did some work on the high cam map earlier. I added 50% and got my wot at 13.2. I need to take some off the high end cause above 6500 it’s going a too rich (12.2). If I can get everything dialed in tonight then i’ll take a video and post it up, if not then the video will have to wait. Oh and it’s pulling much better on the high end than with regular gas. Could be the e85, could be the timing advance…all I know is it’s pulling better and would probably pull a bit more if I added a couple more degrees of advance
car’s very well done sir.
Thanks I appreciate it.
Ok so slight issue…sort of. I put 5 gallons in and started her up and she was all of a sudden running very lean at idle. I didn’t change the tune at all, I just put in more fuel. I pulled the chip and adjusted the fuel multiplier ever so slightly from .48 to .50 and now my idle is back sitting at 15.5 where I want it. Only strange thing is now when my radiator fan kicks on my a/f ratio goes up to 16.4. When the fan shuts off my a/f ratio goes back to 15.5. I read somewhere that Autometer (which is the brand of gauge I have) has issues with changing voltages when something draws a lot of power, such as headlights or the fan. So idk if I should worry about it or just read it as a voltage change. I’m not an electrician so nooo idea how that stuff works. When it changes and the ratio goes up to 16.4 the car runs fine. It idles jsut as before although at a slightly lower rpm due to the fan running.
On another note…I got pulled over down the street from my house, literally before the end of my street. When the car went really lean I panicked and shut it off and then turned my headlights off so I didn’t drain my battery. Well I was sitting there for maybe a minute and a half and a cop rolls up with his lights on. I explained to him that my inspection is out and I didn’t have my license on me cause I was just going around the block. He asked me why I was sitting there and I explained to him in detail that i’m tuning and my a/f ratio just randomly went lean and I freaked out. I explained what going rich and lean meant, and how a/f ratios effect emissions. I told him everything I knew about tuning lol. He just looked at me like “ummm wtf is this guy talking about.” Anyway gave me a warning for my inspection and let me go. He was a decent guy and understood why I was doing what I was doing. I guess it really is Friday the 13th =\ I was gonna go tune the high cam some more, but after that little thing I decided it’s just best to go home and go inside. I’ll finish up tuning it tomorrow
Alright got it figured out. I used a volt meter and measured the battery voltage as my a/f ratio changed and my battery offset was just a bit too low. Here is what it’s set at stock for dsm 450’s. (14v .53) (13v .67) (12v .82) (11v .95) I adjusted them to this (14v .56) (13v .74) (12v .95) (11v 1.05) I tweaked it 3 different times until I got the numbers right. For those who don’t know what this means I’ll explain. When the car has more electrical load (ac on, lights on ect) it will change the milliseconds that the injectors fire for. The battery offset table is a table where you can correct for this change in voltage. Basically my a/f ratio was going lean when my voltage dropped, so I raised the injector milliseconds on the lower voltages so that my a/f ratio would remain constant. This is only for the idle a/f ratio, although getting these tables as close to correct will help keep your a/f ratios correct threw out the rpm load range. Now once it’s stops raining I will go drive and see if any of my previous fuel map settings now need to be change. If so, I will change them as needed and hopefully everything will fall into place. I should of done this offset correction first…but i’m still learning and figuring things out as I go
Just finished messing with the tune on my car. Overall I’ve got about 40-50% more fuel running through it, added 2º timing advance on the low cam, 4º advance on the high cam. I’m running a 15.2-15.5 afr at idle, 14.7-15.2 cruising afr, 13.7-14 low to mid throttle afr, and a 12.8-13.3 wot afr. On the high cam I let it go a bit rich above 7k just to be on the safe side. I will probably change that in the future, but for now I wanna make sure everything is good. The car is pulling better in the mid range and on the high end, and my exhaust smells like kettle corn popcorn =] lol I love e85
Car is pulling better now with 2 extra people than it used to with just me in it. I ran a 3.8L Pontiac from a 20 and a 40, got him by 2 cars each time. I also ran a 4.6L v8 mustang and had him by almost 2 cars, but then he pulled ahead on the top end. I’m officially happy with switching to e85 =] I’ve already advanced 4º on the high cam, but I think another 2º above 6500 could be better. I’m just nervous to advance too much cause I don’t have a knock sensor or anything
Haven’t posted in awhile. Long story short my tune went to shit for some reason so I paid someone else to do it for me.
Here are some photos during the tune and a video I made yesterday of me just getting on it a few times after the tune was finished
First off I changed to RC 550cc injectors. The dsms weren’t working out for me
My tuners stuff all hooked up
We used this boost gauge to watch the vacuum
Took a break at Sonic for a slushy lol
Putting in some final touches
Unfortunately my vtec wires got ripped out of the solenoid that day so all he could tune was my low cam map, but I soldered them back in a few days later and was ready to go tune the vtec portion…, but then I got sick =[ lol. So 2 days ago I was finally feeling better and went back to have the tune finished. We were riding with 4 people in my car while tuning the vtec and by the end it was pulling harder with all 4 of us in there then it ever had with just me. I’m happy with the way the tuned turned out and now my next step is getting turbo parts =] Hopefully by this time next year i’ll be running on 10psi.
Here is the video (lots of wind noise sorry).

One more shot I just edited. This was from the meet we had on Wednesday
A few more shots from the meet yesterday
Thanks.
Took a shot of my motor running last night at the meet

Got a buddy of mine to roll my fenders for me
Day 293 by AlwaysInVtec, on Flickr
And lowered it half an inch. I’m not into cars being slammed to the ground so this is as low as I’m gonna go.
its prolly in here, but whats ur wheel specs? rim size and tire size? im looking to take off my 17s soon and want a nice fit like this
They’re 16x7 or 16x7.5 one of those two, and I don’t what the offset is. I didn’t care when I bought them. I thought they looked cool and I knew they would fit so that’s all I needed to know lol. The tires are 205/50/r16. If you go with 16" rims, I suggest going with a 2xx/45 instead of a 2xx/50. I used to have 205/45 but when I bought these S drives I was dumb and bought the wrong size which is why I had to roll my fenders to go back down to the height I used to be at. But yea, definitely go with 15" or 16". 17 is a bit big for these cars
AGreed on the 205/50 R16 having too high a profile. def stick wityh 45’s on a 16" rim. AT least on these cars … your teg is looking great bud!
Small update;
I finally got my car to pass inspection =]
Day 312 by AlwaysInVtec, on Flickr
Got some new lugs =]
Lug Nuts by AlwaysInVtec, on Flickr
Day 329 by AlwaysInVtec, on Flickr
$50 for those lugs (forged steel) Synergryperformanceusa.com
I also ordered some good trans fluid, Motul molytgear or however it’s spelled. That should be here tomorrow. I put new oem axle seals in and my trans is still leaking on the passenger side though =[ I might of over filled it
Got my trans fluid in the mail today =]
