Need opinions on build

I’ve rethought my budget, time line and goal. First of all, I’m going to try to do everything for about 2k. My goal is to hit 300hp and at least 250tq on stock internals. I was previously planning on going with a dsm 14b setup with junkyard parts, but i’ve rethought that. I’m still planning on going with used parts and finding the best deals possible, but I wont be using junk parts. My plan is to slowly collect parts (finding the best deals possible) until about Februrary. After that (providing i’ve found all my parts) i will start with the install. I’m thinking of a garret t3t4 setup with 50-57trim. I want a turbo capable of 300hp but with little leg, so i want a turbo that can hit my goal but not pass it. I would like my parts (minus the turbo) to be able to support about 400hp if and when i build in the future. This will be a 95% street car.

What do you guys think I should go with for parts and turbo trim etc. What kind of budget should i make up? What money should I spend and where??

basicly build it and find out…

i think 14 psi is a little high for daily driven im only aiming for 6-7

thats on a hi kms engine with stock internals to…

First do a leak down and CP test.

if all ok you can hit 300whp on the stock block with a good tune. Is it going to be a street only car do it just check on some of the dsm forums on how to mod the 14b to its max or use a 16b.

A-man

remember on the smaller frame turbos you have to push more boost though them.

I know for a fact for me to hit 325whp I’ll have to push between 15-20psi out of the tdo5hr

Ya, about 98% of this cars life will be spent on the street. I might take it to the track every blue moon to see what it will do.

I dont think a leak down and cp test will be neaded. My car has 91k miles and has never missed a beat.

So with a 300whp goal in mind, would i be better off to go with a 16b?

No the 14b is good but it’s going to spool even faster then the 16g on the 1.8 thats what makes it fun on the street and plus there cheap DSM guys max the shit out the 14b all day.

I would make a log manifold or even better get spoolin to make one with dp for you.

things to think about

450cc injectors they max at about 300whp
Arp or GE head studs are a must!!
new OEM headgasket
ECU turboedit obd0 or crome obd1

and the rest of the supporting mods

There’s not allot of guy/gals on here that run the smaller frame turbos. its much easier to do it on the bigger ones some if not all run 12psi and hit 300 on a T3/T4.

Im the odd ball trying to do a twin scroll set up. its a little more then I thought it would be but it will be worth it in the end

So how many psi would i have to run my 14b at to hit 300whp. Would I be better off just to go more mainstream with a t3/t4 if I’m mainly using it as a street car?

So if i did a similar setup compared to guy at homemadeturbo.com + ran with an aftermarket fuel pump, higher psi (my engine is in much better shape) and higher octane fuel, would i hit over 250whp??

what do u mean by frame???

im running a gt2871r with the .64 a/r for the turbine. on my stock b18a1 (obd0 converted obd1) i made 300whp at 18psi. this is on a more conservative tune however. with a more performance orientated tune i could probably make the same power at around 15-16 psi. but the stock rods/pistons probably wouldn’t like that.

A small frame turbo is anything from a Garrett gt12 to a gt28 and others in-between most small frame turbos come from production cars such as a evo or silvia.

Look at Redtegs dyno and compare the powerband to a larger turbo such as a T3/T4

sure you will but remember its all in the tune

Spoolin Performance Log manifold package (which inclues
Log Manifold
Downpipe
Dumptupe
Flex Pipe)
Garrett T3/T4 57 trim
Tial 38mm wastegate
Greddy BOV
450CC injectors
Hondata S100
2.5inch exhaust
Spoolin Performance Intercooler.

Simple as that.

Talk to Phil over at Spoolin Performance. Hes a great guy to work with!

I’m thinking of slowly collecting all the parts i need from a wrecker or junk yard. If i do so, what setup/turbo would you suggest if i want to make over 250whp on stock internals for a budget price?? It will be a cheap setup but the time I spend finding low prices and good deals should make up for it:)

theres alot of turbos that can do it. but the thing is what kind of powerband you want. anything from the 14b to a t3 from a saab can make 250whp.

whats your budget?

check out dsmtrader.com

budget is under 2k. Which wreck yard/ junk yard turbo will give me my projected hp goal and the widest power band??

I would stay away from junk yard turbo set ups…if your budget is 2K do it right the first time. If you buy turbo parts from a junk car, most likely the turbo is too.:read:

^^ Thats not always true.

search for deals on honda tech even on zilvia.net for a turbo u can do a budget set up and still be under your budget.

spend most of it on fuel and tuning.

450CC injectors
Arp or GE head studs
blox cast manifold get it from jhpusa

help me out here, dunno what i should do
