Well this started out as a simple dd car that I was going to keep pretty well stock. Needless to say that entire idea changed within a month of owning the car. I paid $400 for the car and had a clutch put in for $500. Not bad for a 1990 Integra eh? $900? I can live with that. Well a month goes by, nothing done to the car so I decided to get an exhaust fitted. I had my exhaust from my 88 CRX extended and put on the car seeing as it followed the exact same lines. Well before I knew it I had 20 people jumping on me telling me I needed to go boosted LS. Well I pushed it off for a few weeks untill I took a ride in my friends 92 turbo LS. I instantly fell in love and new I had to have it. For about 3 or 4 months I gathered parts slowly and surely. Helped my buddy swap a 16G onto his Eclipse and in return got his used T25. Found a manifold and wastegate for $100 at the local speed shop. Then during the weekend of Freak Show (our little local car show that happens the weekend of halloween) I busted some RSX’s ass going down highway 13. I dont know if those things are just that slow or he was just a pussy. I personally thought they were faster. Well later that same day, I busted another ones ass. What the fuck? Can’t drive? Pussy? Or just dont like to play? Well after leaving the second one I went to make a turn off of the highway and I was about to stop for traffic. At that instant I realized if I just went back in gear and took off I’d beat the traffic and not have to sit there for hours. So into gear I go and off the clutch I went, and tached out my car did. I had in my hurriedness went into the wrong gear. Well the car acted fine untill I got to my friends house where I turned it off and went inside. Came out about 20 minutes later and went to start it. HOLLY SHIT! Something was incredibly wrong. As soon as it turned over I heard an insanely loud metal on metal grind and instantly turned it off. Praying it was in my head I started the car again and there that sound was again. It was only on start up though? It stopped as soon as I was in gear and moving. So I started driving home. Everythings ok untill I’m 2 miles from the house and the front wheels start locking up. Kept goin, kept goin got home. Had the car towed to my school the next day so I could work on it. Now heres where the trouble starts. My buddy tows it for me, and in his neglegence, backs the car into a tree unloading it. FUCK! SHIT! GOD DAMNIT! MOTHER FUCKER! Just a few simple turrets induced words for him. Well I pull it into the shop and pull the oil pan out as I believed it was a spun bearing. Well I was right. On the number 4 rod. So the engine tear down begins as do the pictures for this thread as I’m sure you are all tired of reading. Enjoy. Any and call comments, imput, ideas, scrutization is welcomed, unless you’re just doing it to be a dick. In which case I respectfully say, FUCK YOU. Have a nice day.
as promissed a few pictures (oldest to newest)
Completely factory as it was when I got it. Yes I know. Shitty. But hey its a ride and a hell of a dd which was its main intent at the time.
Here we are a little while later after I finally gave in and had an exhaust put on it.
Sure its nothing much but give it time I just had gotten started. So whats the next thing everbody does to a Honda? Yes I too gave in and lowered my car.
Here is the front when I was done with it.
And one of the whole car lowered completely.
And ofcourse I had to find a set of wheels to go with it, but first a little showing off with the local truckers. Yes the car is under the trailor of an 18wheeler.
Old School Prelude wheels.
Now I’ve never touched this motor at all untill the rebuild started as you can see.
Hell, I hadn’t even replaced the radiator that went bad on me at this point. But yes eventually it got a hole in it and I had to replace it. Nothing major.
Its comming along slowly but surely right?
Well for anyone questioning that my car was low I have 2 pictures for you. I used the phone to measure the distance from the ground to the front lift point of the car. With the car not lowered the phone fit completely open under the car touching the ground and the lifting point. With it lowered the phone had to be folded and touched the ground and the lifting point. Yes it sucked lol.
Car not lowered
Car Lowered
So anyway, I started taking the motor out of the car completely at this point as I knew that was the next step since the motor had to be fixed.
There we go. Motors out of the car. Now the real progress can begin.
Does anybody else not like the way the pcv system on this car is? I can’t stand that big black box, maybe thats why I ended up breaking it into about 20 pieces lol. Just one more thing to replace I guess. And yes the ac was the first thing to get trashed when I began pulling things off. It didnt work so I saw no reason to keep any part of it. Everything including the condensor and lines went straight to the trash. Oh and incase no one else noticed, I had done the 93 front end conversion on the car with the bumper. Looked a lot better to me. I recomend it, just a really clean looking bumper cover.
After a little time taking apart everything. A day or so later I believe. And after some much needed cleaning, not perfect, but its better than it was.
I believe this is enough for one night. I’ll let the few people that read this thread have their time doing so and add any imput they have. Will possibly have more up tomorrow.
haha i knew this was coming up on here haha but looks like you got a long way to go before we see some boost…you need to get it done so we can go to the track this summer
actually its really not that much to go considering where i started lol. just the rods, a gasket set, and a head gasket and the motor is back together running. then im ordering the ecu from xenocron then all the tunning equipment. in a month it will be running, in 2.5 it will be boosted.
sounds like you had some fun love the story lol… what suspension did you go with and where did you get it? and how much boost were you running before it broke… keep it coming wanna here progress sounds like somethin id do besides id be a lil more careful
yea wasnt bad. and no boost before. fully factory b18a1 with a 2.25" exhaust. when i first put it back together this time it wont even be boosted. just a rebuilt b18. it will be another month before its boosted. im still tryin to find an intercooler that will fit where i want it. im thinking about going to a half sized civic radiator and mounting it where the ac condenser was then a front mount where the radiator should be. or vise versa if i can find an intercooler to fit where the ac condensor was. im just trying to save cutting up a perfectly good 93 bumper. but its all in finding parts. thats the hard part right now. and on the careful note, if you’re too carful u cant have any fun. learing from your mistakes is part of life and i enjoy life.
oh and on the suspension it was just springs. a buddy had given them to me because he didnt like the drop. mainly because the roads here are shit. i actually sold them on this site 4 or 5 months ago now. they were intrax race springs. not to bad but i didnt really have any other suspension work to support them, so u cant really expect everything from just springs you know?
update
The crank is back in the block. $40 to go for rods then having my pistons put on them and ordering new rings then i’ll have the short block. about a week and it will be a full short block ready to put the acessories and main seal housings on.
update
well i got the 1pieces today. will probably have them on the car by the end of the night. who knows depends how lazy i get lol.
well i started wiring up the headlights and got them on the car. i still have to wire the fog lights and the passenger side turn signal. other than that they are on the car and working. id finish it up but when i got done with the driver side turn signal i realized i couldnt feel my fingers and half my face so i decided to step inside where it was warmer.
got the rods today. going to get the pistons put on them tomorrow. ordering a gasket set and arp studs also. calling honda/acura to try and get that god for saken pcv box and putting the motor together in the next few days. told you it wouldnt be too much longer till its running.
Honestly, is there a reason you are keeping that black box? you’ve already gone this far, just get a catch can and ditch the black box. there’s a $.10 plug they sell at autozone that fits that hole where the black box would be. and the fittings for the catch can from the back of the block can be bought from acura. I don’t have the part numbers but pretty sure I can get them if interested.
Be more careful next time, you must, hmmmmm?
