Okinawa XSi Build

Those tires are WAY too small. 195 on a 7" wheel!? You’re gonna have thin (low profile) tires regardless with such a huge wheel unless you want to raise it up like a DONK. A wider tire will help make the tire sidewall look taller and more meaty though. Tirerack recommends a 205-40-17, normally I’d want to run at least a 215" on a 17", but those are fairly narrow for 17’s, so you could get away with a 205.

As for that front mount, just get a new one, or fill the old one with window weld. Actually, that reminds me, I have some used OEM mounts I need to add to my for sale thread.

I am aware of the lack of tire on the wheel. They came with the tires on them when I bought them. Im going to get a better set of tires for them eventually. These aren’t my new daily wheels. The buddy clubs are going back on soon. Im not worried about the front mount at. Its no big deal really. It saves me from having to put the mount on the traction bar.

I have tein suspension in my XSI, rides great IMO.

You have the coilovers that are for the da? The ones that fit with the itr style rlca?

Yeah, you can totally use those tires, just suggestions for when you start looking for replacements.

Yes I have the ones for the da6, Did not swap rlca still running oem xsi rlca. Cool vid btw

a little update…

the plan for this car at the moment is to have it finished before the end of next year. all i have left is:
rear lower control arms
energy bushing kit
wire tuck
ac tuck
ps tuck
paint and body
various sway bars and bracing
intake manifold and throttle body
a nice header
maybe an lsd

that is all. i dont plan on doing anything crazy with this car. simple and clean is the best way. i will most likely be buying more and more sets of wheels for it. you can never have too many choices. the one set i want the most is a set of work sp1. the ones with the rivets. the wheels that the rota d2 are replicas of. the wire tuck will be the most difficult part since i’ve never done one before. the ac tuck will be the most expensive because the fittings and the lines are… expensive. im going to be doing some engine bay dress up here and there just for looks and some “performance” parts for looks as well.

yes, i will be buying performance parts just for the look. crazy right? aftermarket parts are a lot cleaner and nicer looking than stock parts in some cases. for what i use the car for, it has plenty of power and get up. the best upgrade i can do is becoming better as a driver and learning to better handle the car in the mountains.

just wanted to give a little update so theres something to look forward to for those that are following…

sounds good!!

theres an all day track event on the day of the next sunrise. i will be there with a friend driving the fd and me in my da. there will be plent of pictures and video of the event. also, i put on my ss brake lines finally. the only part i have left is my short shifter. the hardware holding my cat on is corroded pretty bad and i’m really not looking forward to dealing with that.

heres some pictures from the track. the videos are being uploaded
heres the link to the slideshow… these are just the highlights

videos from the track. the first one was the first run of the day and me trying to to figure out the track layout. i got wayyy better and way faster. i shave ~15-20 seconds off by the end of the day. there a few videos of friends cars as well.

can you get your hands on any DA parts i need a parts for my rhd its to transfer the heat to the flapper door on the driver side

i went through an updated the thread with videos and stuff… there isnt anything going on with my car and there wont be for some time…

minor update… i installed that b&m short shifter. it required a rectangle to be cut in the heat shield above the cat. it was scraping on it to the point that the shifter wouldnt move. i also replaced the 2 shifter bushing with the energy ones as well. if feels great. its not as smooth as it was with the stock shifter. its a lot more notchy now, a lot like my fd. almost the same actually. the overall shifting feel is just a lot more stiff. great upgrade… i enjoy it.

Cool thread and awesome car man. I miss Japan. I’ve been all over the mainland and Hokkaido a few times but never been to Okinawa. Ya, you don’t see very many DA’s there at all. I have an imported xsi too that I’m working on.

stiffer mechanical feel with no play is a good thing.

i would love to go to mainland with my car and drive around. a few of my friends have been up there and they said it was the most amazing thing ever… in every aspect. it does suck that there arent very many das out here. i havent personally seen any other ones. my friend sent me a picture of a gray one driving around in naha and few other friends have reported seeing another red one thats a ll riced out. i have yet to see either in person but they are here. so theres at least 3 with mine being the most baller of course =]

i agree… im not complaining. i enjoy it. the only thing that sucks is that the shifter is really far away from me now. my arm is pretty much fully extended when touching the shifter. its no big deal really. im very happy with the mod.

^^ i guess its not a dual bend short shifter? buy a shifter extender it would help a lot, and they are pretty cheap.
