Okinawa XSi Build

so… my 3rd gear high rpm grind has become worse. i can no longer shift into 3rd at high rpm. normal driving is all good but high rpm… forget about it.

i will be doing a rebuild of tranny with syncrotech carbon gears. pretty excited about it…

Great work and nice car. Clean and simple. Looking forward to more updates. I would love to make it over to Japan one day.

glad to see your having fun with the teggy and Im with Jon, One Day. I shall make the journey

thanks guys… if you ever make the trip to okinawa, you got a place to stay.

no real update… there isnt much going on really. i got some cool pictures from last night. me and my friend with the ITR went out to a popular togue spot and mingled with the locals. cool and friendly. we gave a few of them rides. pretty cool.

Just read all of the pages of your thread. Car is in great condition and the parts that are being installed are good quality.

These wheels look very nice. I would suggest to go with 205-40-17 all around. I personally prefer the nitto gen.

ps: would love to go to your local junkyards and pack as much as possible things on my luggage back home. Ill even leave all my clothes over there just to have more room for parts.

thanks man. i went ahead and sold those wheels. they were cool for a while but when i took them off i didnt really have an intention of putting them back on.

but looked around my engine bay just because and the car is telling me that its time for some new parts.

60A hapsort mounts
arp head studs
cometic head gasket
obx-r thermal intake manifold gasket
oem vtec solenoid gasket
oem cam seals
gates racing timing belt just because (timing belt and water pump was changed before i bought the car)

all on order. i was thinking about doing the valve stem seals just because theyre cheap and the head will be off anyway. i havent decided yet. im planning on using the supertech viton seals. i found someone selling a vibrant header for a good price and was palnning on getting that to get rid of the stock header i have now but i dont know if i feel like dealing with that right now. i would have/want to get a new cat made since im sure the header wont be bolt in. something will have to be cut or extended.

only time will tell.

why are you replacing the head gasket? did it go bad or simple a new one to installed the head studs as well.

Im sure the headgasket is fine. Its giving no indication of failure. Just one of those why not things honestly. Im gonna be replacing the cam seals and the cams have to come out for that and once the cams are out, getting the head off is like 1 extra step. Its also going to be easier to get to that rear motor mount with the head off instead of just removing the intake manifold.

i went ahead and ordered the valve stem seals. its gonna be a lot of fun to put all this stuff on. the biggest thing im worried about is the rear motor mount. im anticipating a hard time with it. the head will off so i will have plenty of space to get to it from the top and bottom since i will be doing this on a lift but who knows. idk when i will be doing the transmission rebuild. im having to take a step back for a little while. my fd is demanding more attention and more funds. as for a header, a mugen one just went up for sale for 400$. the vibrant header i was planning on getting will be 150 to ship so that one is 300$.

i may have to just stick with the stock header for a little longer…

oh I see. The rear motor mount isn’t that bad. ive replace it a few time with no issues, but then again I don’t have much in my engine bay. I simply remove the intake tube and I have full access to the rear mount. lol

i got a few updates but most importantly, my motor mounts have arrived and i will be installing them this weekend. i drove without my hood on to go and get a better fitting hood from a db that was in the junk yard here with ONLY 40,xxxKM on it. beautiful car sandwiched between a celica and a gloria i believe. you can see it here as long as the link is up

http://www.o-cross.net/user/carParts/detail?id=000723-3131207-N0042&search=new&register=2&view=2&sort=dd&page=4

anyway, as i drove there to get the hood since i have no way of transporting a hood, i was able to see just how bad my motor mounts are. its pretty terrible. i will be making a video of the before and after just so everyone can see. i think i should win an award for the worst motor mounts in the world. it blew my mind how much it moved around.

i set up an appointment with the body shop to get the car painted and on feb 3rd i will be dropping the car off for almost a month for it to be transformed. the owner of the body shop is in love my car and told me he wants to buy it. so i know for a fact hes going to do a good job since he is basically painting the car for himself… not me. i of course agreed to sell it to him when that day comes. it makes me happy to know i wont have to worry about my da when i leave here.

i got the next set of wheels lined up for the da as well. im torn between ssr professors sp1 or the sp2 in 16s. i want to get both but spending that kind of money is unrealistic when the fd STILL needs a set of wheels. so i need to pick one. i can have 2 sets of track wheels or track wheels and some dope ass city wheels. if i get the sp2 then i want to get them painted in the same gold that they came in.
not sure how ling these images will last

What’s the deal with the junkyards there? The cars don’t seem to be damaged at all. Why are they scrapping them?

You should really go back and pull the headlights, taillights, side moldings, window visors, brake light, seatbelts, steering wheel, ecu… Hah if only that was near me.

well a lot of the cars get junked by americans that dont care to sell the car and just want to get rid of it. in some cases, the car is worth more as raw material than it is being sold as a whole car. who knows with all the other ones. why the db got junked, i’ll never know. everything about the car was perfect.

the headlights were already gone, didnt really care for the tails since they arent any different in the usdm model, dont have the patience for the side moldings, there were no window visors, i will be going back for the 3rd brake light, why the seat belts, steering wheel was stock and missing the center button, the ecu is worthless. the car is/was AT and a carbed single cam. i dont remember what the engine code was. it was/is a ZX.

i got all that i could use off it. i grabbed as much of the interior that i could use and a few little things.

So when are you going to send over the fender cap mike? Lol jk

The jdm tails are different, they don’t have a reflector on the side like the usdm. Not a huge difference but some people are willing to pay for it.

The side moldings are easy, you just have to remove the door panels. They’re also probably one of the most valuable parts on it if they’re in good condition.

Usdm seat belts are automatic, the jdm ones are manual. People always want to buy manual belts. If you do decide to pull them make sure to take the pillar covers too

If the speaker covers are Gathers, I would grab those too.

Oh and the sun visors! If you wouldn’t mind pulling those for me I’d pay you for them and shipping. Call me weird but I hate how the visor on the drivers side doesn’t have a mirror on it.

lmao i could ask you the same thing :naughty::giggle:

I sent you an email about a couple things… :cross:

Manual belts, no?

I’ve been so tempted to inquire about some JDM goodies from Mike. Alas, I can never pull the trigger.

If the mirrors and relay are in good shape I’m sure you can sell those as well.
Are you keeping the car the same color?

Manual belts for me? No, I need a set for my DA but I’m not gonna go through the hassle on my db1 and they actually work on that car. I inquired about a few parts I need for my DA that are interchangeable with the DA7. The db1 is going to stay just how it is, at least until I finish the DA.
