Looks good to me, but I’m no OCF pro. My first time really using it too in the second pic.

zing!!

I like that second one. I was shooting my car a couple weeks back and some how came up with a version of that, and then started modifying it.

I wish I had taken the same shot multiple times with the flash in different areas and then blended the layers together in PS, but we were in a hurry trying to dodge the oncoming rain.

Meeting up with the guy who owns it again this weekend, so maybe I’ll get a second chance.

Went to Buttonwillow again on Saturday.

My setup this time:
Canon 1D MkIII
EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM
1.4x II extender (FTW!!!)

One of my ongoing website / video / photography clients is a friend of mine who created the mascot for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s department. I’ve been given access to roam the jail with a guy in a dog costume, the county sheriff and my camera, it’s a pretty cool gig just because of the people you meet and places you see.

We went out the training facility for the driving pictures and the Zoo for the picture on that crazy 3 wheeled contraption.

His website that I’m working on currently is www.briscok9.com, it’s very much a work in progress. Brisco was actually a police dog for the Sheriff’s department for a very long time and was killed while on a bust I believe a year or two ago.

Since this is a photography thread, I’ll ask here. I’m thinking of experimenting with indoor architectural photography. Without spening a wad of cash on lenses, would a Canon 18-55 IS lens on a XTi be a good lens to start with? I’m thinking of interieor pictures of houses that you see in home builder magazines.

No. You’re going to want something very wide. Maybe the Tokina 12-24mm.

Probably going to want a couple flashes too, like the 580exII on camera and 1 or 2 430exII’s off camera.

Jay is right about the wide angle, and as far as flashes, you can get away cheap with some Vivitar 285hv and some ebay triggers if you are really trying to scrounge.

HAHA. Dude said he didn’t want to spend a wad of cash and you recommended a $500 lens and ~$1,000 worth of flashes (not including triggers and stands).

Does not compute. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, photography is not cheap. period. You can be ‘relatively’ cheap, but it’s still going to hurt the wallet.

:werd:

Don’t go cheap… or you’ll just be disappointed and end up buying twice…

500 for a lens is cheap… That lens isn’t bad at all… but yea you need a pretty wide lens for taking “real estate” shots… lol…

Sigma’s 10-20 is nice too…

You gotta pay to play…

Thanks for the suggestions. I admit I was looking at the 18-55 purely based on price. I didn’t want to blow a wad until I knew I was capable of half-assed shots. I tried reading up on whether 18mm was wide enough but couldn’t find much. As far as the lighting I was thinking tripod and natural lighting and maybe even HDR depending on the situation. Personally I’m not too big of a fan of interior shots that use flash (just a personal opinion). I guess I’ll start saving up for that 10-20/24.

I think you’d be a fan of interior shots that use flash when you see them after they’ve been done correctly.

And I disagree, the 18 should be plenty wide enough, I’d be more concerned with the quality you’ll be getting out of it more than the width, I have a 12mm and when I’m shooting homes for the builders that I work with, I rarely ever take my 24-70mm off the camera. Granted, I’m shooting full frame but even on a crop body I’d think the 18 would be better. I would want better lines than something so wide it distorts the pictures (if they’re going to be used for something bigger than your personal collection). That’s just my .02 on that though.
