Pics of Clearence with Civic Half Radiator

I’ve ahd this isntalled for a bit now but thought I’d take pics today. It’s pretty simple really. All I used was 2 long metal pieces for 2 brackets and some bolts and nuts and voila. Basically waht I did was when I removed the stock radiator. You will see the radiator legs sit on the lwoer rad mounts but it has rubber cushions between the monut and the rad itself. I reused this because I did not want to have my rad sitting right on metal obviosuly. So it sits right on there nice and soft… Pics explain themselvee generally.

As you can see in the last picture, When the hood is closed, I 10MM gap between the rad cap and that glob of glue from teh factory. Heck I coulda have probably mounted it 2CM higher and shaved that glue if I really wanted. Overall, It clears perfectly

Let me know if you have any questions guys. Oh as for whoever will ask how will I mount a fan sicne I used that lwoer mount for the bracket, I am using a thin fan and mounting it on the front

how much did the radiator cost? i heard that the stock civic one wont work
because of over heating issues is this true?

Even a stock skinny half rad would be sufficient,a s lnog as your coolnig system is up to par and you have a stock flowing or stronger fan. There’s too many people thinknig that they can use their A/C fan as their primary fan only cause it’s narrower. Many civic owners with half rads that swap in DOHC engiens in stay with half rad.

I’m afraid I have to disagree with you. I’ve tried using a stock single core civic radiator in my turbo DA, when I have the LS/Vtec Turbo and it did not work. After a few minutes of idle, the car started to overheat and let’s not mention when it was at full boost and outside temperature was 85 degree…

The best solution that I found for my problem was to use a G3 integra OEM skinny radiator. Safes up a lot of space and it works awsome! Specially for those of us, turbo guy

I read your postings and you were using the A/C fan on the first half rad tho. The AC fan doesn’t pull enarly enoguh CFM’s comapred to a normal rad fan. If you are usig the AC fan on the full sized rad the fact that it’s full size with the slow flowing rad fan is prolly just keeping your engien cool enough. Either way, There are jsut too many Ppl with DOHC swapped into their civics using stock half rad and bosoted having no problems.

i was waiting for you to come out of no where and add your input on this.

Tchleung so basicly you are saying not to use the AC fan right? if my car blows up im coming to canada to have a talk with U!!!

Yes the AC fan pulls considerably less CFM’s as a standard rad fan. I’m using a 10" thin revesable fan that when moutned in pusher it pushes 1350-1550 CFM’s. that’s almsot double the AC fan. and I read somewhere that the stock fan flowed somehwere from 1000-1200(someoen jump in if i’m wrong)

Nice. I have that same radiator and love it.

i used a stock single core radiator from a civic and had cooling issues with an 10" after market fan so i bought another 14" fan and put it on the engine side and used the 10" fan on the front side and have had no problem since .
running a fully built b16 turbo

boosted teg any pics? and where did u get the 14’’ fan from?

How the ehck did you fit a 14" fan on there? lol. the core height is jsut over 13"? Pics?

i got the fan from discount auto parts and i am sorry but i dont have any pics i will try to get some tomorrow but i was suprise it just so happen to fit perfectly from the top and bottom and on the sides and i donhave an ac condensor so the 10" fan is sitting on the side where the condensor would normally be

Tchleung- If I can give you any advice on anything be carefull with that MSD unit. For what ever reason, they have got a bad review and do not last long. I have one aswell on my GN and it lasted for 2 weeks then wouldn’t start. So I took it off and ran the bypass plug and she fired up. Its intermitant. Some times it will work and sometimes it will not. I could plug it in this week and start the car, then next week it won’t. It can’t be bad grounds because I run everything off the battery for both pos/neg. Its a common problem with this unit. Just a little food for thought. It sucks to be on the road away from home and find yourself stuck.

Actually MIKE, you’re absolutely correct. It ran flawlessly for about 6 months, then became really iffy and runnig taht with external coil kept illnig my distributors. so I got rid of external coil and it was still having problems so I jsut recently compeltley took it out. was a complete waste of moeny and GARBAGE. in the pic. it’s jsut sitting there. not actually wired up. lol

the digital 6? i have had mine on my car together with a blaster ss coil for about 2 years without any trouble. do you guys still run the factory ignitor?

yep. it wrecked two factory ignitors… DIdn’t know there awas an upgrade.

no upgrade to factory ignitor, but there are ways you can bypass the ignitor with an aftermarket ignition. search honda-tech i don’t have the link anymore.

I bought the Digital 6 and its going in next week. I didnt want to hear people having problems. I know there are problems with SCI and other units but I was told the newer Digital 6 was reliable.

I have the 6a model and it has been runnign strong for 4 years, three years on a ford f150 4x4, my mudding toy (rip) and for a year on my teg. I have had no problems out of it.
