I have the fittings sitting on my workbench right now.
Iāll have 9 available this evening when I get back from work. They require an ever-so-slight tweaking to be 100% compatible, which iām taking care of after work tonight. Stay tuned for a link to the FS thread.
Hey Ferretā¦i need a fitting, how many does it take to do the job 1 or 2? w/e i need some, or if you can fill me in on where to get them. thanks
does any one know where i could find fittings and all to run stainless lines instead of hard lines? and what size fittings would i need? i cant seem to find any hard lines locally, so i was thinking it might clean up better using stainless lines when removing my ABS.
i have searched here and honda-tech and found nothing on stainless lines
I just finished my conversion and all I used were:
4040 prop valve (non-abs integra)
3 x 60" 3/16" brake lines (advance, autozone, napa, anywhere)
and my matco double flare kit (used 3/16")
Everything came out really well, works perfect! Didnāt want to spend a bunch of money on non-abs lines so I just made my own. Brake lines were like $12 ($4 each) and I got the prop valve for $5, so it cost me less than $20. I reused some old line to make the lines that goto the prop valve to the adapter for the rear brakes, and reused the fittings from the old abs lines so no need to buy any of those. Now Iām going to bed
Hey when you guys pulled your ABS, what would you say the ABS reservoir (full) and the whole unit weighs? Iām looking at tearing my non functioning ABS out for some weight savings, now that Im back to a steel hood.
I havenāt weighed everything, but between all 3 pcs of the abs crap under the hood, extra fluid, ABS computer, etc. it is probabally around 30lbs not to mention all the underhood clutter it clears up
the shit i not-so-gracefully removed from a car getting parted out weighed in at 27 pounds, 9 ounces not including fluid.
so youāre very closeā¦good guess.
Brake line fittings
Sorry to revive an old thread but I have some of the brake line adapter fittings for sale if you need any. Check my FS thread here: http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160936
I have all the parts I need ready to do the conversion, except now my stock master cylinder is dying on me, so I just decided to replace it with a new (or nearly new) non-ABS MC. Coincidentally Iām looking for a good one, let me know if any of you have one youāre willing to part withā¦anyway this thread has been a big help in collecting the parts and such for this project.
I canāt wait until I get my ABS out. It makes a squeally noise when I turn the car on, and my ABS light stays on all the time. I donāt think I need it anyway.
This thread has been very informative, borrowed some pics to help somebody on a different site. Has anybody changed both the booster and master cylinder? Was wondering if any difference was felt after the change over?
boosters are the same, so unless yours is leaking or otherwise bad thereās really no need to change it.
the MC provides for much better feel though.
The last couple pages said the non abs m/c on the abs booster made the brakes lock up.
why would you put a smaller master cylinder on?
ok so tell this to me know so i can get this straightā¦whats the + side of removing the abs?? after market part wise?..i just bought my gs-r about a month ago and my abs works, but just wondering for future reference on add on parts. see what i will be removing it for.
Im just repeating what was already stated, I am hearing both sides. All I want are the facts.
the facts were shared already, you just werenāt paying close enough attention.
2ndgenāthe DA ABS system is horrendously unreliable at best. it locks up very easily, and doesnāt provide very good braking on top of it all. the system is also very prone to problems, causing trouble lights to pop on and off like Whack-A-Mole moles popping out of the ground. it also clutters up the engine bay, all for the sake of making the vehicle harder to work on and harder to drive.
that about sum it up?
Iām switching to a 15/16" MC for now, I donāt think itās going to be a huge difference. I think maybe the reason the guy before was saying that his brakes locked up after converting was because he wasnāt used to driving without ABS.
My reason to remove ABS is it doesnāt work anyway, and it is heavy and full of brake fluid. Also, it clutters up my engine bay, it is in the way of the top of the passenger side strut tower, it makes a funny squeally noise when the car turns on, the ABS light stay on all the timeā¦I could go on. Basically, it has to go.
My biggest trouble with this project has been trying to find a good double-flaring tool. Iām at the point now where I think Iām just going to get some short steel braided lines and proper fittings to extend the rear brake lines, rather than try to reuse the hardline, since the best tool I can find is the crappy one you can rent from Advanced.
I got my double-flare tool from Sears for like $17 on sale. I think itās normally $25.
This is it right here:

Well to go to Sears Iād have to go to a mallā¦and I have successfully avoided those for almost a decade now and Iād hate to break my record! Anyway I went to Cline Hose & Hydraulics today in Greenville (http://clinehose.com/) and they made me two 6" crimped rubber hoses, M10 male on the side attaching to the dual-prop valve, and M12 female on the side that attaches to the rear brake lines. This cost me $22.43 which is probably less than Iād have spent on a double-flare tool, and the 30 minutes I spent waiting for them to be made has to be less time than it would have taken to cut and reflare a bunch of hardlines. I was originally asking for teflon (steel-braided) lines, but that would have been about twice the price and I would have had to wait until Monday to get themā¦
So tomorrow I hope to finally get the conversion done, I now have everything I need, and Iām so ready to get that damn ABS crap out of my car. Woo hoo!!!
Anybody have any tips for actually getting it out? I know to let the pressure off the brake system before disconnecting any of them and try not to get brake fluid all over everythingā¦anything else?
