pics of my non abs conversion

a picture is worth a thousand words.

thanks for the walk through man! ill keep you posted if i decide to do it, someone showed some interest in buyin my car last nite so we’l see…

Well I tried it twice and the first time didn’t go so well. I pub the fitting in a vise with the male end up and holding the drill above it lowered it down onto the fitting as straight as possible. I used an older drill because I couldn’t find the newer one, and probably a 3/16" drill bit. The drill wasn’t true enough, and it was pretty slow (but not really slow). The area that was drilled wasn’t perfectly on center, or quite evenly sloped. I tried correcting it without much luck. I didn’t expect it to work well, and when I tried it on the car, it leaked.

The second time I tried, I found the newer drill which is much faster and straighter than the old one, and got another fitting in the vise. This time I also used a 1/4" bit. It worked pretty well, I took a little material off but not too much (the nipple inside the MC port is not very big after all). I wish I had taken a picture of it when it was done, but when working on my car late at night I often don’t think to stop and take pictures…I just want to get it done…

RedStarGsr: glad you like the pic, I think a picture is worth a thousand words but sometimes it needs some more words on top of it to really make sense…especially when the photographer and camera both suck…

thanx man all i wanted to know.

thelusiv did you use the ABS mc?

im not sure what fittings you have to use on the MC side…

thanks for that diagram it really clears most of this up…

Yes I used an ABS MC. I have a fitting on the MC side that adapts the male M10x1 brake line, to the female M12x1 hole. So the fitting is a female M10 -> male M12. There’s a link in this thread a few pages back to imperial supplies where they sell this piece (needs slight modifications, also mentioned in this thread).

i dont think this has been addressed before…but what do you do with that thing on the corssmember?

i would remove it

I think that’s the ABS modulator (look on the ABS diagram on the underside of your hood). If you convert your car to non-ABS you remove that. But you can’t remove it until you remove all the ABS stuff, because it’s part of your brake system…

ah ok, so its the thing that actually pulsates the brake system for you?

no thats what abs unit is for. its a single part of the system that works together to pulsated the brake for you and it cant be removed without the other parts of system be removed
:salute:

well, i think the abs pump provides the power, and the modulator controls the pulsation

well i got a 1990 RS so never had ABS… why do you guys take ABS out?

cleaner engine bay, by now the system does not work properly.

anyone know where i can order brake line fittings?

all the autozones, pepboys, and other places around here (nyc) dont seem to carry these…

The link to Imperial is back on page 5. They’ll sell minimum five fittings for like $40 shipped iirc. I have maybe one left, unmodified. I’ll sell it for $15 shipped. Keep in mind you’ll have to drill it just right to fit, I won’t do it for you, as I’m not going to mess with guaranteeing my work and all that jazz.

I was wondering about the fittings that go on the end of the lines, the ones that are flared on… do they even make female fittings that can be flared on?

im trying to make the extension from the firewall to the prop valve out of hard line…

thanks

edit: see where you used the rubber hoses? i want to make that out of hard line since i cut those portions of line out of a non-abs car… now i need to find female fittings to flare on to them…

where did u get those hoses from anyway?

I got them made at a hydraulic hose shop in Greenville, SC called Cline Hose. I don’t know about female fittings. I don’t think you need them. In my car there was this female-female thing between the rear brake lines and the ABS modulator. Why not just use that? Look at the pictures linked from page 1 of this thread, you’ll see some people who did exactly that with the hardlines.

you’re right i dont need them… i just saw what you’re talking about…

thanks for the help, im still deciding if its easier to transfer the M12 fitting to these new lines or to modify that adapter… since you only have one, i only have one shot at modifing it…

if you’re willing to drill it for me ill gladly pay you $15 shipped… since you’ve done it already… and if it leaks, it leaks… no problem ill take my chances…

hey Mark(armed ferret) you dont happen to have any more of those fittings left do you. getting ready to do my conversion in a couple of weeks and i cant seem to find one anywhere:(

i tried to email you, but it wouldnt bring up you email
just hit me up at Ghopfenberg@msn.com
