Actually I searched through the threads and found what I was talking about here http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?214638-HID-vs-retrofit-(options-purpose)/page3 Bwright81 posted his set up where he switched out the ebay adjusters with some other bolts that can handle the weight and still be functional allowing you to adjust the lights.
The whole reason why I did the ebay retrofit was because I was told I wasn’t able to adjust the stock USDM lights, came to find out I could when I disassembled them.
If you do get them be careful of the tabs. When I first test fit the ebay lights the tabs weren’t exactly in the right places and in order for me to make them bolt up correctly I had to heat up and manipulate the tabs to fit on the driver side head light. I think it’s because of this they became weak and broke over time. Which is another reason why I am retrofitting the USDM lights.
Ah I see. He actually used the original holes but just different hardware. I made my own holes with new hardware so they were in the correct location for the projectors and left the reflectors attached to their original hardware. It’s a lot more tricky when you use OEM projectors. The mh1 are just a step up in difficulty from pnp HIDS.
A pretty big step up in my opinion. I like them because of the simplicity of them, not a lot of modification and fabrication has to go into it to make it work. The output isn’t that bad either, could be better but I think you get what you pay for, I was very happy with my set up. I believe that the flaws in the setup I had was caused by the ebay headlights. Which is why I am in the process of putting them into the USDM lights. Even though it may decrease the output due to the fluting. But I do plan on taking the spare lenses I have and getting rid of the fluting.
Well, I tried to just smog the car. But because I did the auto to manual swap the EGR went bye bye and smog shops told me I’m going to have to go to BAR.
I made an appointment and went today. Took about an hour, I have no idea what they did other than smog portion of the test. The Ref told me that B20’s have been allowed to pass since 2009 (who knew? lol).
He did say that EVERYTHING (he said missing the check valve on the dashpot will fail you, as well as mixing OBD0 parts with OBDI/OBDII parts, basically if your car is OBD0 keep it OBD0.) has to be there, which is why most people fail. In my case I had everything switched over and I also put a new CAT on which probably helped a lot with emissions. The tech didn’t say anything about the trans swap.
Wow, thank you for this information. You now have me thinking of going back to my original plan of putting a B20B in my car. I may just pick up the high comp one from hmotorsonline for $699 after all.
Definitely will! I know that the cut off won’t be as good as a cleared lens like my ebay one pieces but i’ll still be happy with it. More happy that with the stock halogens at least lol.
Looks good man! I can say that when I had my jdm one pieces retrofitted the fluting did blur the cutoff completely to a fuzz but it still didn’t glare in people’s eyes. It just wasn’t sharp like with clear headlight lenses. I think you’ll still be very happy with it!
Got the lights all sealed up and installed. Have a couple pics. I’ll take some other pics with car all together and output shots tomorrow. All in all I am really happy with the results. The cut off is not there but the car doesn’t look or scatter the light like plug n play HID’s which is what I really like.
