I’m tried of worring about my pcv valve setup. Can I just gut the damn thing out then run a line to the road? Any harm in doing it this way?
thanks.
not that i know of. put a water bottle for a bootleg catch can or liek you said…run a hose down to the road. sorry for those who care alot about the environment. we’re already running turbo so might as well do it.
^My thought exactly. I see all these hardcore pcv valve setups so it doesn’t pollute but I rather know for fact im getting all the crankcase pressure out of my motor than worry about a little oil on the road. any other opinions on running it like that?
First off, if your blowing oil out then you have a problem. Most of what is coming out should be unburned fuel and the other nasty by-products of combustion. Second there are much better methods for evacuating the crankcase.
this wont work.
PCV system vents the crankcase by having a pre-TB vacuum source. (pre turbo on a boosted application)
this helps evacuate the blow by and harmful unburned fuel that can cause problems for a number of reasons.
Ya vaccum pulls on the valve making it lift and letting out the gases, with no vac. than the valve is closed. But I want to gut the valve out so its always open no matter what. that way the valve wont ever be closed during boost.
clarify, are you going to have this pcv line running to post turbo vac source?
or are you running it into ur preturbo intake/airfilter?
cause if its anyway similar to stock you dont want to be pushing boost into your crankcase, thats how seals are pushed out and shit starts going bad…
No straight down to the ground. no vac source at all. I’m gutting it so it wont have anything in their to open or close, it will always be open. It really wont be a valve anymore just somthing for me to attach a hose to.
w/o the vac the unburned fuel and oil fumes will build up on the inside of the head/valve cover.
Just pick up a vacuum source and get urself a pop bottle.
I dont think you get what im saying, im basically taking the pcv valve out and have a line going to the road. What I need to know is if I need a vac source to draw the crank gases out of if I can do what im thinking. Remeber there basically wont be a valve anymorejust a hole were gases can leave freely because their wont be anything holding it back. What do mean pop bottle? im pretty sure i cant just go pcv valve to catch can (bottle) to intake manifold. I tryed on my old motor running a line from the pcv to the intake on the turbo and it didnt seem like it was working thats why im asking this.
Any crankcase pressure will push itself out with ease. No need for any vacuum assit with the way you want to do it.
^^^^i was waiting for this guy to chime in. i just didnt remember how to spell his username. i got the idea of running the lines down from him. if you think his ideas are questionable just check out his thread for his sexy daily driver
this isnt a good way of doing it, again. Fumes arnt just “pushed” out…
thats why people with those super JDM apc gangsta breathers are actully kinda frowned upon… and no i dont give a shit about the enviornment i just know this isnt a efficient way of having the crankcase gasses escape.
the pcv setup you had before was far superior, and why not jsut make urself a ghettoass pop bottle catchcan, or buy a catchcan…
if the whole line to the ground thing worked as good why wouldnt everyone do it?
racecars dont have to pass emmissions…
if you can prove to me that it is as effective than ill use my catch can as a paper weight.
Everyone DOES do it. Endyns crankcase breather is pretty much the same idea. free venting. Although from a difference spot, the idea behind it is still the same.
:owned: sometimes you just dont disagree with certain people…no puns intended. it just doesnt matter. not worth the effort or the money
I finally spent the 2min of time and took all that spring crap out, put the pcv back in and ran a line to the ground. Seems to work good, for now anyway.
I hope you one day suffocate from the pollution you emit. It takes 5 minutes to rig a catch can and a line to your intake pipe. Thanks for making the world a worse place. Oh and btw, your crankcase is vented way more if you have a vacuum source pulling on it.
i’ll probably suffocate from the pollution the big rig driving in front of me emits before the pollution my pcv system emits even has the slightest effect on me. and wasnt the pcv system just added onto american cars only? hmm
Although that is totaly true. there is no vacuum when you are under boost unless tapped into the intake track of the turbo, which doesn’t create ALL that much vacuum either.
“None to insignificant amount of vacuum drawn at idle and low load conditions, moderate load created 0.25 psi(0.5”) of vacuum, and high load/WOT created a maximum vacuum of 0.5 psi (1") vacuum."

Either way, there are a million ways to do it. I do it the way taht works best for my setup, Iv’e tried all the rest, slash cut into intake, etcetc but free venting worked the best for m
Thats really right, theres about a million different ways to look at it. I just figured i’d voice mine too. If your gonna do a road-draft tube, I hope it works well for you. My maxwell house catchcan does me good. (flat black of course)
