I love my rs*r, but it has gotten pretty loud, but thats considering how much it’s been used and how long, but it’s a nice loud, nothing crazy like a rsr GTII, thats just annoying loud
as for the SP2 it’s a great exhaust, but to loud for my taste, the tone isn’t that great compared to a rs*r thats been broken in somewhat
"Sleek in design, this exhaust systems jet-black coating hides the SUS409 stainless steel muffler and piping behind the well known. "
RS-R USA Site
Corrosion Resistance
"Grade 409 resists atmospheric and exhaust gas corrosion. A light surface rust will form in most atmospheres; this rust retards further corrosion but makes the surface undesirable for decorative applications. "
I’ve seen some pics of the RS*R Ex Mag on prostreetonline.com and it looks a lot different than the above pics. The tip is shorter and the muffler is mounted right behind the tip. Is this a newer model or something or is it just a general pic of the exhaust?
I was just wondering what adapter you are talking about for the rsr exmag. I just bought one and am waiting for it to get here and i just dont want any unexpected delays when i put it on. Thanks
I don’t worry about the rust since I don’t drive it in the winter.
Since I have a 92-93, I had to use the adapter. It would have been nice if they tell you which way to orientate it.
RS-R exhaust good.
RS-R down springs bad.(too soft)[/QUOTE]
I have the RS*R exmag on my 93 gs-r and its amazing. Sounds almost stock at idle and just slightly deeper all the way to about 4,000. When you go WOT you definitely hear it though, but its a very nice tone. Nothing too loud ever. I’ve heard alot of people say it sounds alot like a stock 350z.
Also this is the third winter I’ve had mine on (upstate New York= salt… alot of salt). Granted the black paint chipped off the first winter, but the metal underneath is still unrusted. Its not shiny SS, it almost looks like galvanized metal, but even galvanized rusts and this hasn’t. The only spots that have rusted are the factory weld points, but even these appear to just be surface rust.
Overall I couldn’t be happier with my RS*R as far as looks, durability, sound, and ease of install.
I just installed my RSR Exmag last night and I got to say there were only a few things I could nit pick about the exhaust:
No extra gasket or bolts for the 92-93 extension piece
No instructions showing which direction to attach the extension piece (I learned after the first install that the extension must lean towards the left so that you have clearance for the shifter).
I have all the teg bolt-ons done and the RSR Exmag wasn’t much deeper or quieter than my 6 month old OBX SS exhaust. Just to make things clear, the OBX exhaust doesn’t sound much different other than it’s a tad louder at lower RPMs.
The ceramic coating scratches off easily.
The tip sticks out about 1" more than it should, but with a WW RS rear bumper it makes it blend in much better.
The AWSOME things:
By far the best quality exhaust or product that I’ve bought for my teg. The thing is built solid and everything was packaged with custom foam parts to protect each piece in the 68x45x36 RSR box. The complete exhaust was coated black (even the inside).
Everything fit PERFECTLY on the hangers with no need to pull or bend. It also sits more snug than the stock exhaust with no contact points with the exhaust heat shield.
From 0-2,800 RPM the tone is deep and louder than stock that’s for sure. AT 3,500 RPM + it sounds like a g35 but with a little deeper\louder tone. (I drove home next to my friends G35 and he even thought the exhaust notes sounded amazing).
I noticed a little more pull compared to my other aftermarket exhaust which was a bonus.
I really think the exhaust is worth saving up to purchase. If RSR was to include the few missing parts then I wouldn’t have anything to complain about.
I think the problem you stated with the extra gasket might be because of who you bought it from. I had everything needed when i ordered mine, including bolts and gaskets. But just like you and I believe someone else mentioned, the 92-93 extension piece can be confusing at first.
My order came straight from RSR overseas in Japan. The box and bag which contains the 4 bolts, and 3 gaskets was not previously opened. You need a total of 4 new gaskets for the parts which go together and 3 extra bolts for the extension. Like I said, it’s not a big deal but it would have been nice to have everything when I went to install it.
i’d say that it will get a little louder at WOT and maybe a little bit during midrange, but at idle it barely changes. Mine still sounds mostly stock at idle, even if I keep it below 3000 rpm you would never know I have exhaust.
Are you running a stock cat? It could be the high/flow cat that I’m running which is enhancing the volume. Guess I could always throw the OEM Cat on and see if that tones it down a bit.
yes the cat makes a big difference with this exhaust, I switched to a test-pipe for about 3 months but got tired of the noise so I switched back to stock cat. Never really felt a differnce. Honda cats are very free flowing anyway, so IMO the extra noise wasn’t worth it to me.
I know you guys have beatin this subject to death but I had to come to defense for the rsr gt2. It is really loud but it sound like it’s straight off the track . It doesn’t sound ricey at all. It’s in my opinon the best catback for our DA’s
to everyone who is confused regarding the 92/93 extension peice, there is and extremly simple way to remedy this. Put the exhaust on from the rear to the front, thats how i did mine and had no issues what so ever, just a tip for future reference.
what kind of high-flow catalyic converter would be recommened along with the RSR Exmag…& where’s the best place to potentially purchase one online…any suggestions? Thanks in advance…
