seen it on a vid so i tried it...leaf blower

so my employer said i could take the blower and try to fix it back up while also play with it. so i decided to take off my CAI to clean it and while i was at it i took my old rubber intake sleeve and connected it to this leaf blower :slight_smile:

haha its not as stupid as it sounds…i dunno where that other vid is but it was of a 2002+ (not sure what year) civic SI on a dyno with some guy forcing a blower down the intake. it made an extra 12 whp on the dyno. I on the other hand didnt have a dyno. I already had 149whp on a mustang dyno. after i hooked this lil thing up i drove around the neighborhood with the hood gapped open. lets just say my tires can still chirp a few times even going into second gear. took about what seemed like around a second or so to kick in from the start at pick up then once it started up i was chirping down the street…

it was interesting to try but i took it off an hour later when my AEM filter dried off…

im thinking you can actually fabricate this to fit in where your intake resonator once was if you custom make a tube to reach your TB. i didnt have time nor did i want to waste money on something i was playing with for 10minutes… but from that vid. 12 whp is no joke…its worth a quick run for the fun :naughty:

ive also heard you can take the air pump off a 80s GM and fab it up to a riding lawnmower and basically make a supercharger lawnmower

It’s also a lot of fun when the car runs lean because of that extra air your forcing in there and it blows up.

The neglible amount of semen forced down your thoat should be compensated by the ECU. :wahmb:

and about running lean. true i might have been running a bite lean but then again I HAVE AN SAFCII im sure i’ll manage…and it was for like 2 minutes…and i dont see how the extra air from this lil blower is going to “blow up” my motor when ppl can turbo a car on stock internals…which mine arent…

Blowing it up has nothing to do with the fact that turbo cars don’t blow up with stock internals. Turbo cars don’t blow up because they have fuel management to add extra fuel for the extra air. I’m sure that it is fine, but I’m just saying that it’s not something that I would do.

I had actully thought of doing this but since the leak blower is only one speed I thought there wouldnt be a smooth powerband, like how a turbo gradualy builds boost but a leaf blower just forces air instantly. Its not coresponding to the RPMs but it did work, was it just idling or did u use the lock on the handle to have is at full throttle?

yea i just had it on full throttle, not worth the time to figure out a way to manage throttle haha…

how many much air flow or speed did that thing blow?
cause i know at my school we dyno’d a hyndai or some shit with hubcap spinnaz and it made less power b/c the leaf blower at the end of the power band was actully choking the motor cause it couldnt push enough air to fill the cylinders and it actully began running rich.

No its not. A supercharger is connected to the crank and as engine speed builds so does the momentum of the rotor/blades in the supercharger, be it a centrifical or a roots platform. A leaf blower on the other hand pushes the same amount of air the whole time, from the time it is at WOT it pushing X amount of cfm’s. A turbo or supercharger will push more cfm;s as the RPM’s raise. this is why the electric fans on ebay dont work as superchargers

ah yea makes perfect sense. and i dont doubt that it might have been actually been depriving the engine of air rather than helping at higher RPM’s but it was still funny to roll around then block with my neighbors all watching in confusion. i posted this just so i could give some ppl a lil laugh even if it meant i got flamed =P back to N/A power ^. ~ 150whp

o im not flaming u, i think its really funny and I problly would have died if I saw it first hand. I was just explained that the leaf blower doesnt deleiver air in the same fashion as a supercharger or a turbo
