Status of my turbo install... many pics

Last week I skipped work and started installing the turbo…

The car is a '92 gsr with 112,000 miles, runs perfectly, no leaks, no cels, no problems.

The turbo kit is a drag3 kit purchased new through David Shih. He is the drag representative, and sells these kits on ebay…

The basically consists of:
T3/T04E 54 Trim Turbonetics
35mm Tial Wastegate
HKS SuperSequential BOV

I ditched the Vortech 12:1 Fuel Management Unit and Missing Link, and bought DSM 450cc injectors and the UberChip from notecLS, aka UberTeg.

Under the “F it, it’s race car” mentality, I ganked the A/C, Power Steering, and radiator/fans. Instead, I have dual-core, half-width civic radiator/fan, and a 12 inch turbo-to-intercooler pipe.

Here are some of the ‘nice’ pics, the [crude] site has more…

Manifold, It’s what’s for supper.

Obviously, I’ve still got a ton of work to do…
There will be more pics when I’m finished, and an actual webpage, instead of my unrealistic daily plan…

awesome!

turbo gsr=:D

happy boostin’!

if you need an extra hand lemme know!
n0 3xcus3s is my screen name or u can email me. I have the day off tomorrow!

i love your camera! Those pictures are so clear and detailed!!!

Looks good and how much did the kit cost? and your gsr is stock right?
how much boost are u running or will be running?

what is the roll of towels for? to wipe off all the drool from the engine bay as you dream about being back on the road?

92Teghatch: unfortunately, I’m back to working 9-5, so it’s turned into my own personal after work special… I don’t have much left, so I should be ok…

Hondasi88: the camera is a sony, p51… I think… some of the pics are fuzzy, and you can’t focus up close… but it’s a pretty decent camera
The kit is going for $2975 now… it was 3100 when I bought it… but that was a few months ago.
This is my first turbo install, so getting the kit seemed like a good idea, knowing what I know now, I’d piece together a kit and do everything custom… but that’s because I ended up customizing a lot of the stuff the kit came with.
The motor is stock, and the Tial came with a .45 bar spring, so I’ll only be running around 6-7 psi for now…
Hopefully a future rebuild will change that.

qwkteg, the paper towels are actually to dry the tears, since I couldn’t help but break down every time something didn’t go as planned… which happened a lot…

hey quick questions… i thought the drag was supposed to work with A/C and power steering… also with teh battery in teh stock location… but then again… it seems you arent usuing some of the components that come with the drag kit… like the pipe coming straight through where teh radiator used to be…

very nice, good for you.

Technically, the version of the drag kit that I bought was supposed to work with a/c and power steering…

I took the power steering out for fun, then when I was looking at everything, I decided that the a/c lines were annoyingly all over the place, so I took them out too…

Plus, I wouldn’t have been able to put that turbo to intercooler pipe through the front with the stock a/c cooler still there…

Supposedly the drag3 kit should only take about 8 to 12 hours to install on a 90 - 93 integra… and it’s supposed to bolt right in…
I don’t see how…

the blow off valve flange was originally set up such that the bov would have been occupying the same space as the ABS…
that doesn’t work for me… thus the custom charge pipe…
the only pipe that I ended up using without modifying was the one from the intercooler to the charge-pipe…

the pipe coming through where the radiator used to be was a drag pipe, unmodified, but I have no idea where it was technically supposed to go… the kit never had any instructions…

How did you get that radiator to fit without it being bashed by your hood? I’ve got a Civic radiator at home that I tried putting in but it was too tall.

pipeing

what pipeing is that and is its custom would the replacate it for me just the passenger side

Hey I bought my kit from Dave also. Nice guy. Did you get that Tial from him?

so the kit requires you to use the half size radiator? never knew that! your dump tube dumps the exhaust air right ontop of your return line, even though its steel braided, you sure its safe for you oil return line? everything looks pretty good and clean. post more pics when your finish! by the way, you did put in your oilreturn gasket right? i saw it laying on you radiator support i think!

WhiteTeg24:

Well, the hood’s off of the car so…
haha, no really, I haven’t shut the hood yet, but it looks like it’s too tall, I’m going to be ‘trimming’ up the frame a little to get the radiator to sit lower… I’ll post pics after I do it…

Xsi-T:

The passenger side pipe’s consist originally of 3 pipes…
the pipe attached to the intercooler, that enters the engine bay, is one of the pipes that came with the kit, I didn’t ‘mess’ with it at all…

The charge pipe that attaches to the previous pipe, connects directly to the intake manifold, the silicone hose is hiding a less than perfect weld… This pipe was orginally supposed to run along the top of the intercooler, but I cut it up, and had it welded to a piece of the original charge pipe (containing the BOV flange)

ntroie40:
I did get the tial from dave for an extra 100 bucks…

g2ls_integ:
the kit doesn’t require a half size radiator, the kit comes with piping to snake up around the battery, down into the bumper, across the front of the car (above the intercooler), back up into the engine bay, around the battery again, and then into the intake manifold.
However, as I enjoy destroying things, I put the small radiator in, and sent the turbo right to the intercooler.

The dump tube is dumping right onto the return line right now…
I’m planning on changing that before driving the car though, I’m not sure exactly what I want to do with it… I’m considering that front-bumper-dump thing that people on h-t are doing…
I did put the gasket in… that pic was of a test fit… it came out better than the pic of the final fit.

there are a lot more pics here if you want to look.

I spent the last two nights running the wires and pressure lines for the gauges, I don’t have those pics up yet though.

Yes please post pics when you “trim”. I wanna see how you gotta fit it.

i was scrolling through your pics. nice pictures! your pics are for sure going to help give ideas to new turbo teg guys!

about your dump tube, you can just do what i did. i got some cheap ass exhaust flex pipe from pep boys and clamped it onto the dump tube to extend it and since its flexable, just flex it to the side where its not pointing to your oil return and wrap it with thermal wrap. it looks like a regular dump tube. under the thermal wrap, noone knows its a cheap flex pipe.

i was looking at your pics where you mount your gauges and looks like you riped things up. you could of just slide it from the side and cut a round circle at the end of your gauge pod and run it through there.

nice pics though, looking good!

g2ls_integ:

where do I get that flex pipe from? I haven’t looked for it yet…
I’m trying to take as many pics as I can… digital cameras make it easy to do so… too bad I’m just borrowing this one, heh.

As far as the gauges on the a-pillar…
“F it, it’s a race car”

originally I had intended to put the boost gauge and the oil pressure gauge up there, but I wanted to use vacuum line to the boost gauge, cutting a huge hole in the plastic a-pillar afforded me room to slide the vacuum line into the pillar, but there were other obstructions that proved annoying… so I’m just going to put the oil pressure and the oil temp gauges there instead…

with the gauge pod mounted, and the gauges installed, no one will know how big of a hole is in there anyway…

besides, I can’t afford to sell this car, I’ve put too much into it…

the flex pipe is in the exhaust section. its in some long box and shows it in the front cover. if you cant find it, just ask them for a exhaust flex pipe. pepboys, autozone and kragen all have this stuff. different sizes too.
your right about ot selling the car. i put so much shiet in my car, i cant afford to loose it too.

93 TEG with JDM GSR going turbo

Hey guys,

I have a 93 blue teg with a recently swapped JDM GSR… I have all the bolt ons… Skunk2 manifold, STR 89mm throttle body… Greddy SP catback (which sounds great by the way), DC Sports headers (ceramic), walborro 255 pump… AEM fuel rail… high flow cat… Almost forgot the ITR intake cam… I am thinking about doing the Drag kit… upgrading the blow off, and a couple other things… Does anyone have any imput on this kit? I will probably run 8lbs of boost until I can afford to build the motor… Any imput or ideas would be great

Thanks guys,

Dave
