Yes, if you don’t cut that wire it will feed power back to the low beams.
I went through the whole thread and didn’t find an answer I was looking for.
So this is my question…
Right now, I have my foglights re-wired, and what i mean by re-wired is that I just simply reversed the wires inside of the foglight switch itself… for those who have a little bit of electrical experience, you should know how I got it to work (very complicated to explain)…
So when I turn on my ‘parking’ lights… my fog lights come on with it instead of the headlights coming on with it (but still remains on with the headlights on)…
The cool thing about this way of wiring it is that when i arm or disarm my car… not only do the parking lights come on, but the foglights come on along with it… and this helps alot too since i have that whole ‘parking light supervision’ thing with my alarm (stays on after disarming for 30 seconds)…
If i were to rewire it the ‘teg tip’ way… would i lose the whole foglight flashing with my arming/disarming???

yea you would lose them.

cause arent our fog lights and headlights not suppost to flash continuously? i think i’ve read that somewhere… and it’ll blow the bulbs…

u r correct
just to clarify things… my headlights do not flash when arming and disarming. Just my parking lights and foglights flash all together…

yea that was clear… I like ur idea tho, xcept i dont wanna go messin around witht he wiring again, now my defroster wont turn on.
lol… yeah that’s true… I’d probably leave it if I were you as well…
Just so everyone knows…
basically… I “borrowed” power from the parking light wire instead of the headlight wire that goes in the switch… which in turn turns on the foglights when the parking lights are turned on.

o ok I understand now…
well that was a pain in the ass. I couldn’t get my switches to come out with our removing the entire piece that goes over the gauges but that’s okay cuz i’ve been needing to fix my tach. Now that’s fixed and my fogs r re wired which was easy to do once i figured it out. Thanks for the tip
Easy to do…Thanks …
once you pull out the defroster and the foglight switch…which wire (color) do you suppose to attach it with that’s just tripping over my head!!!
-
disconnect the black/ground wire from the battery…
-
pull out the fog light & defroster switches…
-
locate the fog light switch, now cut the --red & yellow-- wire about 2 inches away from the switch
(if the switches are located next to each other on the dash bezel, then skip to number 6. )
-
if the switches are away from each other, different sides of the dash bezel, then you need to get a wire, about a foot and a half long, single wire. some speaker wire would work fine also.
-
splice one end, so copper is exposed (using a knife or blade is fine, but i suggest using a wire stripper) then connect it to the --red & yellow-- wire of the fog light switch, your basically extended this wire.
-
now take the wire that is on the fog light switch. splice the end of it to expose the copper wire, and splice it in (connect it together) with the --black & yellow-- wire of the defogger switch…
-
do not cut the wire on the defogger switch, you are only cutting the housing, to expose the wire, so you can attach the --red & yellow-- wire with the --black & yellow-- wire…
so the wire will look like a " T " one wire running straight, with another wire attaching to it…
- after you’re done with that, put the switches back in place, connect the negative end on the battery, then your done
any questions, just ask…
Where should I stick the screwdriver to pry out the switches? The top, middle, or bottom of the switch or does it matter? I don’t want to break anything.
try bottom first…then top…I had to use 2 screwdrivers on my new teg but only one on the old one… there are 2 clips holding it in (one at the bottom, one at the top)… pretty simple
my defroster doesn’t work right now. I want to rewire my fogs. If i do this will they work or not, since the defroster doesn’t work.
if your defroster doesn’t work, it probably isn’t getting ne power to the switch or the little thing attached to the rear window is out so test the window defroster lines first if the test light doesn’t light up on the defroster lines then your defroster might just be dead. so im not sure if your getting power too the switch or not. just take a test light and see if it lights up at the switch and that should tell you.
questions:
1.) will my defroster still work?
2.) how am i supposed to expose the wire without cutting it?
yes the defroster will work… just splice the wire going to the switch WITH the wire coming from the fog switch
Done!
My DB1 does not have a sunroof, so had to do the wire extension method underneath/behind the console.
Some nervous moments when the defogger wire would not cooperate with my stripping technique… I had cut it 3 times and it was still too short!
As soon as my sticker comes I will officially be a g2ic.com junkie.
