top mount intercooler

is there anyone with a custom top mount intercooler under a hoodscoop on a g2?

HAhahah…what do you think this is…NASOIC?

Go find a Subaru forum :gay:

Actually, when I first met Allan from MD, he had his top mount LS/Vtec turbo. I dont think it was that efficient but he had it at the first WCM

Maurice actually i was just LS turbo back then. here is a pic of my old setup.

you are right xeno, subaru’s are the only car with top mount intercoolers:attn:
but hey we all want to drive the exact same car thats why we share info about modding right…
ok, im not really trying to be a dick

anyway, i was thinking a small intercooler under a modest scoop on the driver’s side closer to the windshield with a smaller matching scoop on the pass side above where a custom CAI would bring air in from the top not bottom, this would be mostly for style in my case, but i would rather not block the radiator, im just asking if anyone has any experience trying to fit an intercooler in the area i’m describing

could you email the pics, they arent showin up for somereason, torpus@hotmail.com, nm they came up now

Top mounts are much less efficient for obvious reasons…that and the fact that I couldnt ever bear to see a sexy G2 defamed with a Subura scoop :frowning:

don’t forget about the 2nd gen RX-7s…

so, i have no idea where you got the notion that im talking about putting a subaru scoop on my da, but again, im not talking about using subaru parts, if i would use any stock scoop the closest thing im talkin about is the scoop on the old 93ish body style 300zx for the IC with maybe a vent, like off the stock peugeot 206 just closer to the bumper, instead of a scoop for the CAI, but i would prolly just need to make them custom, does anyone have a “non-fake”, as in being used, hood scoop on their da?

oh and dencio, i was being very sarcastic :hugs:

^^^ :stuck_out_tongue:

you should build it so we can see…

 maybe i will… :stuck_out_tongue:
if i do it will be a while before hand, sittin on a 91ls w/a stock b18a with 130k thats still running strong and a girlfriend that doesnt like spending money, which is a good thing in the long run =)

just boost the b18 and rebuild it after it blows…

i am planning on boosting the stock block to like 6-8psi, its just my daily driver, i will prolly start off with a little dsm intercooler like above before anything custom, i do have a friend who is quite handy with the mig welder who wants me to boost so i should be able to sqeeze some handy work out of him

Considering that hot air rises, and colder air sinks, I think a top mount intercooler would be inefficient. (With a hood scoop-- it would be cooled off greatly, but you’d always have to drive at 65+ mph to have sufficient cooling.) Otherwise, at slower speeds, that top mount intercooler will be heatsoaked, from engine bay heat.
On the other side, a top mount intercooler would allow for shorter piping, and slightly reduce turbo lag.
