vtec turbo vs non-vtec turbo

Dont do it to them! Its stress enuff dealing with the @ssholes on here. I can see that you’ll have your work cut out for you at Honda-tech.

What we have to understand is that OUR way is NOT always the BEST way. Ls/Turbo and VTEC/Turbo have their advantages/disadvantages, as we know. When people get into pi$$ing contests, it does nothing but put people on the defensive and the, “your setup $ucks and mine is the best” attitude takes over.

BTW:The Honda-tech FI forum is patrolled by some of the most knowledgeable and proven racers around. Not just bench racers, but guys with proven records of building FAST cars. I would definately have my ducks in a row before I went there throwing the :bs:

I couldn’t care less if anyone believes what I have to say, or even listens to me, especially Jeff (he proved to me long-ago that he was an idiot). But I for sure am going to say my piece so that other people realize there is more to the world than vtec power. I’m not saying that my setup is the best, but I’m also not going to say that vtec, or LS/vtec is the best, that would just compromise my position. What setup is best is for the reader to decide. But I will not be shut up by the vtec gestapo.

yup…he did a lot of the work on the install of my turbo, the tuning too…he’s great guy :up:

Dude… those people said some really really stupid things. I totally agree w/ Dave that vtec is not king, and i personally think not king for turbo.

More torque from the b18 or b20 will result in quicker spool times, and longer geared trannies will help you stay in that boost longer. No valve overlap from the vtec lobe kicking… Straight boosted power. Whatever. Thats just my opinion.

Both can be great when they are setup properly…
I don’t see what all the fuss is about.

I’m not agreeing with anyone in that post. What I’m talking about is flaming one or the other and leading the conversation into a “Mine is better” argument -where this post is slowly going.

Also, how much of a difference in the sleeves is there between the B20 and the B18?

I’ve heard some people on HT have problems with the b20 sleeves under conditions which a b18 would have been fine. I guess beccause they are thinner.

don’t they know that all the fastest Japanese race cars don’t even use VTEC? What do you think the function of the VTEC KILLER CAMS are for?

I would go with nonVtec/turbo because it’s true about the Overlap with Vtec, it basically just gets in the way, Mike or Mark I forget (2 years ago) told me that when I went to Hi-Tec to get a header made for my ex-ladees ITR. :burnout:

Race Cars use vtec motors, they dont disable the vtec. They lock the cams in highrpm vtec cause they always in high-rpm anyways.
Vtec killer cams run only on high-rpm and the low-rpm vtec lobes are gone making it lighter for higher rpms.

Race Cars? You mean Auto-X cars basically…those cars lock their Vtec in HighRPM,

and you are correct about the VTEC killers…they do however eliminate the VTEC function…
