vtec turbo vs non-vtec turbo

XDep gave a pretty good summary of this thread. Yes people seem to be confused with vtec. And yes i have alway been referring to the vtec motors. Having vtec enabled or disable is not the issue because if you disable the vtec it’s still a vtec motor.

EXACTLY, rob it is a VTEC motor, without the VTEC hence that car is very quick for having non-VTEC which the whole argument is about…:bored:

Could someone else actually explain what he’s trying to say?
cause he sounds like he’s saying, if u disable vtec your car is faster? or something car is very quick for having non-vtec???

It doesnt make much sense to me. If you tell me something new I might reply.

The debate is pointless because it all boils down to personal perference. I personally like the power and torque of the LS, where others thrive on the fact that they have vtec and can rev the piss out their motors. If you want the FASTEST motor for forced induction I would suggest building a Vtec. Even if they disable the vtec on a vtec motor. Its still a vtec motor. A LS head can’t rev like a vtec head and thats where there power is obtained. Its all through the vtec port configuration and high lift cams with tons of duration keeping the valves open as long as they can to cram that air into those cylinders. So yes the vtec motor is a better starting point. But that is just for your serious drag racer. On the street its different.Because now we are not talking about high power motors that are trailer queens. On the street the LS if done right (key word, done right) is hard to beat because we make more torque sooner meaning Vtecs have to play catch up and peak with less torque. The average turbo car out there whether vtec or non vtec is around 250 to 350 whp. So there really is no advantage for a vtec motor over a non vtec motor. I personally beleive vtec motors under these conditions are short lived. If you don’t rev a vtec motor then your not making power. So you have to rev the piss outta it to achieve big numbers. Where a LS makes more torque and revs to about 7000rpm in most cases not stressing the internals like its vtec brother. Bottom line is its all personal perference. I can’t flame either one because its like your taking a stab at Honda/Acura. Its all under the Honda umbrella. So if someone tells me LS turbocars suck. Who cares man, all I know is when I get in my car I am more then pleased with its performance and thats all that matters. :sucks:

I agree. I love my LS motor, but the vtec motors are better for high horsepower engines. Go price out an LS port job and larger valves and you’ll quiclly see why the vtec heads are a bargain compared to building up an LS head. Turbo or n/a you will get more power out of them for less money, unless you’re talking a mild street engine…then I guess it doesn’t really matter.

BTW I’ve never had a vtec motor and I probably never will buy one. I have no motive to try to tell you the vtec motors are superior. They just are. Who gives a sh1t. Get over it. If you love LS engines and try to build one up then good for you. I am going to try the same thing with mine.

news flash! vtec heads flow better than LS heads! And in other news 2 + 2 = 4!

blah blah blah

IDont worry im not saying LS=crap. Cause you gotta love that torque from an LS motor. If I was building a motor for street I would go LS over a B16 with a coubt. If I was track/drag racing I would go B16.

Peace

i thought that turbo and duration were a bad mix and most turbo cams have less duration than even stock vtec cams when on the mid lobe? i guess the higher lift would still be a good thing…

vtec-vs-non-vtec

i must say that i didn’t have enough time to sift through pages 1&2, but, Mikes right, but, i must say this one thing though, (hoping this has not been mentioned)when your talking B18a-vsB18c&c5, it’s a very hard debate. the 18a smears the 18c&c5 but only until about 5000rpm, after that the roles are reversed.creating even more hell for the beloved b18a, is that damn gearing of the vtec tranny, which is, to say the least, mental when in powerband. this is where the debate heats up. if your srictly talking b16a-vs-b18a then there is no question, TORQUE, baby!!!

Just my two cents…peace
