this may be overkill but why not use 2 dampeners. one on each side for balance.
it is probably overkill, but mostly its just expensive. one spoon damper cost me $200. and should work just fine anyway.
Here is my prototype for a tri bar:

There is another post I posted this stuff into, Armed Ferret in that thread said to contact almostboosted about my bar. I am redesigning the bar, as this is only a prototype to see if I could do it. No hating the welds, the wirefeed was sticking that day causing a pulse, and shitty welds.
Here is my lower rear bar:

These took a total of ~4 hours to build. Most was making the mounting plates. It should take less time once I have a jig and pattern setup.
For the tri bar, there is a plate behind the firewall, thats what the rivets are for. Keeps the plate from falling in the cowl if you take the bar off.
You’re the first one on this thread that have a real prototype in hand
Can you tell us what do you think about our design??
Nice bar you have! Any pic of the new one your talking about in the other thread?
Thanks
There’s an article on team-integra where the poster came up with a great solution for an inexpensive torque dampener (use a mtb shock). I’m thinking about doing it, I just need to figure out the mounts to connect each end.

That’s awesome Operator
mmtegra you’re awesome! What a find! That’s way, it will not be overkill to put to damper like this on each side to “balance” the stiffness.
I’ll do my damper like this
Thanks a lot!
ima stick with my spoon. but ok
and i saw your strut concept before which is what motivated me to make this thread. its very nice. but as you know will not fit abs
still open for anyone else’s concepts

I have had it ~4 months, definite difference in hard turns with it on. I did not have any other bar before, so I could not comment on the difference between this one and any others.
I like the design, I made this one after the one on Pat’s car (thanks for the inspiration!)
In post #52, the damper on the pass side, the angle it is at is not going to do much of anything. It will pivot, or bind depending on the attachments to the block and fender. I am liking the damper on the driver’s side, like on Pat’s tri bar.
I am thinking of doing the same thing on mine and dropping down to some motor mounts softer than my ES inserts. I want to remove the torque, but also not have the vibrations.
You could have the damper on the pass side, but you need to make the damper compress in line with the torque of the engine. You also need some place to mount it to the engine. Its just not as accessible on the pass side as it is in the drivers side.
My next prototype, which should be finished after New Year’s, will be triangulated at both strut mounts (currently the pass side is one attachment). It will also look a bit nicer. I like the main angles on mine, but the mount angles are shitty. Its not even in the engine bay square. You may not be able to tell by the pics, but if your looking at it from the drivers fender, across the engine bay, its not going straight across from one strut to the other. This will also be fixed. I have been holding off on posting this bar for the 4 months its been in use, because of this. I do not like to show people my half-assed projects. Ya its functional, and probably strong enough and triangulated enough to handle anything I throw at it, but I pride myself on quality, and this is not my best.
Like I said in the other thread, I need another (local) car to test the new prototype on. I am considering selling these but I need at least one other car that has not been wrecked or has frame damage to make sure it will fit on any G2 without any modifications. I will not assume my 17 year old car, though it has never been in a wreck, has a completely straight frame. They will be cheap, (cost of parts, materials, shipping, and tack maybe $10 to that) as I am not looking to make anything off them, just help my fellow G2 owners, and cover any potential costs. (new grinder wheel, more metal stock, or more wire for the wire feed)
Once I am satisfied that the next prototype is the way I want it, have the jigs etc, to produce them more efficiently, I will make a thread in the suspension forum about it. Then make another thread in the “for Sale” forum to sell them, if there is enough want for them.

My company (TDC Motorsports) is working on that since no one else seems to be interested in developing parts for the g2.
We have completed designs for:
Fender Bracing
Rear Lower Tie Bars
Rear Strut Bars
Racing Seat Brackets that accept OEM seat belts
Hood Dampers (not carbon fiber safe)
We are working on designs for:
3 point strut braces (abs friendly)
“Monkey Bars” - like the miracle x braces
ITR style Strong Bars
Underbracing
Skidplates V2
Front Lower Tie Bars
All G2 specific. It takes a lot of time but we’re working very hard to make sure these things are perfect. All of the parts will be tested on my personal car in daily driving situations, autox, and on the track. Next year I will hit up at least 2 main events here in Kansas with these parts installed. I hope to complete the prototypes this winter.
i’d be very intersted in seeing these parts… you should post some pictures of them.
me to
they ALL sound very nice
i could deffinantly use a skidplate
:gotpics:
ha same and a new header. that bike damping shock is a good idea. i have a spare bike too.
I can throw up some pics of the Hood dampers possibly this evening. The tie/strut bar prototypes are being painted right now, soon as they are done I’ld be happy to throw em up too.
I love designing and fabbing up new parts. It’s just such a long process b/c my crew and I are such sticklers about every little detail, and most of all functionality.
These dampers are really cool though. Easy to install. Very stout. I’ll get em up.
The skidplate is another story. Version one was spectacular but wouldn’t fit unless you used the OEM header. Second version worked with every JDM itr replica, but wasn’t very thick. This version 3 should be finished soon. It’s thicker, cleaner, and will have mounting points for the header itself and can be used in conjunction with the underbracing.
For reference think of the bracing as “cradleing” the header pipes as they hang low, and the skidplate acting as protection and a deflector.
very nice. very nice
will the skid plate fit my JUN headers? will it fit the full race traction bar?
and whats the ITR strong bar?
what kind of underbracing are you talking about?
Looking forward to pics of this. I’ve been slowly working on a firewall brace bar like Pat’s. I never thought of the rear shock for a dampener…and I ride a full suspension bike everyday. I guess I just didn’t think it would work.
Sorry i  right when I got home. I’ll get em tonite I promise.
k, whtas your companies name? do you have a website?
TDC Motorsports. No website yet. For some reason the pictures came out really really bad. Almost like my lens is scratched up. Picking up a friend’s camera over lunch. I’ll get er done.
ok, dont let us down
dang i take a week off to work on the new project and look at how far this thread came. man some of these designs look really good. im personally looking for someone to do a y-brace like pats that i can add to my current neuspeed setup. im very fond of this strut bar!. i think the fenderwell and motor mounted torque damper was a good idea. i think that pat had a really good idea working the torque damper into the y-brace. that way its not applying a force to the bar thats supposed to be supporting the coilovers (the strut bar), and reducing its effectiveness. instead, its going to the y-brace, where it is distributed to the firewall and (already separately braced) shock towers (in a different location than the strut bar bolts up). i also really liked the idea you guys had to put the torque damper on the fenderwell and the side of the motor. two wouldnt be a bad idea but im not sure if its really necessary, especially if you have good motor mounts and a traction bar setup.
icemangsr- im ready to buy a set of your fender braces as soon as i see a picture and same on the rear lower tie bar setup. i have an adjustable one that is spaced out with longer bolts and washers and id really like to switch to something solid if you could make it! let me know whatsup, i think you have my email.
