does your turbo pull to 8200 on your b16? people say they die out at 6-7 but i dont really notice it all that much. my car pulls to redline good 1st,2nd,3rd.

even though the .42 .48 is small compared to other t3’s and hybrids, i think on a stock ls motor, its efficient enough, especially for a budget setup.

I think its safe to say at about 10psi it will pull almost to redline…i think that mine signs off about 7k to 8k. This is on a b16.

mine pulled until 5500 on my ls

mine pulled to 6800 @ 10psi, stock LS, 3" d/p, 3" exhaust

maybe that was the LS dying out of power after 5500. It is hella quick from 3500-5500

i rigged up a ghetto ass plastic fish valve and im running around 8-9 pounds now on a spare basemap i picked up.

lol 9 pounds is ALOT different than 4… i think i need a new axle now.

it does kinda die out in the high RPM, oh well, its alot faster now.

btw, when i first put the valve on, i thought i would try it closed all the way first, big mistake. i punched it in first and i swear i saw the boost needle shoot up to 12-13 psi. it felt sooo fucking quick. anyways after that little incident come to find out the charge pipe off the turbo blew off lol.

mine is falling real bad at around 6k and 6 psi, but does the same at 9psi. Like someone said, its just the way a b18 head is built, look at some dyno sheets!

So, what’s the final word on the .42/.48 ?

I’ve seen couple threads with mixed results. Is the .42/.48 good for a starter setup that is “almost” a daily driver? I want a cheap, quite reliable and fast spooling setup. (My engine rarely sees more than 5.5k RPMs)

So is the T3 .42/.48 a good turbo for my application? Is MPG gonna suffer a lot? (I have a 2¼ cat-back that will need to stay there)

Thanks!

your MPG is gonna suffer for sure, but this goes along all the fun you’Re gonna get out of it ! if its cheaper go .42.48, but at the same price id take a .57

Spend the extra money for the bigger turbo. The gas milage is so shitty with it u will want to kill urself. That is why i scraped mine.

id say get it in, play around, and then move on to bigger better things…

Just because you are past 3500rpm or whatever, doesn’t mean you are at full boost.

Last time I checked, my car’s throttle had a range of movement greater than on/off. Learn to accelerate slowly, and you’ll stay out of boost. Or do you americans only know how to waste oil pointlessly?

i have a .48 on my stock motor, daily driven, enjoyable, reliable, nice powerband in my opinion, thats what id go with for boosting an ls

^^^jdecks, could you elaborate on your setup? how many pounds?

thanx.

Can we start a post with everyones basemaps that are using .42/.48 turbos? Anyone interested?

i just installed a 42. 48 i cant find a tuner to tune it for me yet ;/

see, i like speed. 42/48 is something that is not fast, if u want to get beat by single cams, go with a 42/48.

my new setup will be a 70/82 t3/t4 on my built b18a. lookin to hit 400 whp. the 42/48 cant dream of 300

for a daily driver a 42/48 is great. do you really need much more? now if your planning to head to the track on the weekends to race thats different.

Actually, 200-220 whp would be enough for me as I don’t race the car at all. That’s why I was inquiring how a 42/48 was…

bump this thread for updated .42/.48 users.

how’s the gas mileage with these turbo’s? im gonna run this turbo on a stock b18 '93 motor. mine has an internal wastegate that i think is set at 8psi which is what i want to run daily. i also want to have it tuned for 10psi. any of you push this turbo to 12psi? has it held up well at 12psi? also, any of you have some hp numbers for this turbo? i have a 2.5 inch downpipe that im using. i dont think i need as big as a 3inch but i do have a 3inch as well. im probably not gonna run a cat when i redo the exhaust. my car’s a daily driver though. i drive about 300-400 miles a week so i dont want to be spending crazy amounts of money on gas. post pics too, i’d like to see how your setups are. im keeping a/c with my setup. powersteering will stay unless it needs to be removed.
