.42/.48 Users Chime In

i dont see how big of a different it makes on gas mileage as long as you dont step on the pedal too far… but of course you won’t be able to hold yourself from doin it! im holding 10psi till 6700 no problem

bump for updates on reliability and satisfaction

they are reliable, and they are proven good garrett turbos. The reason why people tell u not to put them on ur b series is because they are too small for a b series. u get full spool by 3000 rpms. at 5 psi it dies at 5500 (stock internal wastegate)

My next turbo will be a 60/63 and that is the ideal size for the b18

what about 10psi? hey compton is there any other way i can talk to you directly? instant messenger or something?

bump this!!
any new users?

Turbo Tegs Rule!!!

I can’t say anything bad about my Turbo Teg. It’s very fast. I am using a .48/.42 turbo from a talon on a rebuilt B18A1 running 12lbs, Skunk 2 intake manifold, ported and polished head, ‘90 intake cam, ‘94LS exhaust cam, micro polished pistons, MSD Blaster 2 coil, custom built fuel rail, full oem bearing rebuild, straight through HKS Hi Power Exhaust, separate wastegate pipe straight to atmosphere, TurboEdit street tuned. I don’t need to streetrace or have a dyno sheet to know that it is very very fast. This is the third engine I have had in this car and I plan on keeping it this way for a long time.

^^what clutch? stock map sensor? what’s the diameter of the hks piping? does it fall on it’s face, or pull till redline?
thanx.

Actually it is a stage 4 XTD clutch sprung 6 puck. Had a Clutch Masters Stage 2 in it before and it did not make it very long and it was a waste of money. A SAAB 2.5 bar map sensor, HKS 2.5 Hi Power Exhaust with no cat. No the car does not fall on it’s face once it gets up in the high rpm range. It pulls hard all the way to redline. All yeah Platinum 4 plugs rock. I have tried lots of different plugs and they are the best in my car. Really runs smooth with them and feels like they add more straight forward torque band in the mid rpm range. I am just waiting for all of the “You are suppose to use NGK only and no fancy plugs” posts. I have tried them. The Platinum 4 plugs run the best for my build.

All yeah I forgot it has a Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel too.

cool. i’m glad to hear your comments, cause i’m installing mine soon. setup will be:

spoolin log mani
garrett t3 .42/.48
fmic
tial 35mm
dsm 450’s
dsm bov
walbro 255
exedy stage 2 clutch
2.5 custom exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler (still debating to run a cat or not)
2" intercooler pipe to turbo and 2.25 from turbo to IM

i’m gonna try to stay at 10 psi so i can stick w/ the stock map for now. i believe it’s good till 12 psi before it’ll throw a code. any advice on the install, or stuff i should be aware of? also, did you keep a/c? if so, do you have any pics of your bay. i wanna keep mine, but i don’t see how it’s gonna fit.

thanx man.

any of you guys running oil restrictors with your .42/.48? i was told to run this one:
Oil Inlet Restrictor - .065" hole size 1/8" NPT (for Journal bearing and larger GT BB)

i don’t wanna blow out my seals…

From what I understand,
It doenst matter what turbo it is.
If it doesnt have an oil restrictor,

Put one on.

yeah, i ended up ordering it to be safe…

You do need the restrictor no matter what.

thelate1, you don’t need that fuel pump. Your stock one is fine unless you have big plans for that set up.

i’m sorry, but there’s no way the stock pump can keep up with those injectors. someday i will be getting a different turbo as well.

I have 450 cc dsm injectors and a stock pump on my d16z6.
No problems at all.

I just bought a Brand New Garrett .42/.48 off a member on this board. I am going to hopefully be installing my kit in the middle of July or so, and will let you guys know how it is, and post some videos if I can. It will be going on a stock B18a with ARP headstuds, and everything else stock most likely. I will also have a UGR manifold, which is jet-hot coated, custom stainless downpipe and dumptube, 27x6x2.5" intercooler, 2.5" aluminum charge pipes, Turbo XS RFL BOV, tial 38mm wastegate, DSM 450cc blacktops, walbro 255lph fuel pump, turbo edit chipped ECU with ostrich, and all the other little stuff that everyone has.

I had my 93 integ with .42/.48 chip & tune with crome street tune, its only been a week car is really fast,we did notice the turbo running out of steam at 10 psi, boost is set at 8 psi very happy with tune and tuner thanks to zeeman..
